...to the ear, unfortunatly the AOpen 956E does not provide this, in my oppion the device is noisy and sounds like its ripping your disc appart, but if sound is not on your buying list this product is a good cheap alternative to other brands or as a replacement. i have owned one of these for over 18months now, after my unbranded 24x drive gave up the ghost. i installed it, without the need for any drivers, just plugged it in, and once in windows, there it was. ive never had a problem with it, it reads all types of media, cdr, cdrw, black cd, normal cd, and as i said, i have never had a problem with it. i also know of two other people that own the exact same drive, and have also never had any problems, so ... ...the drive vertically. Being Pioneer I imagine longevity is a given, at least here in my household they have an enviable reputation for reliability. I have never managed to break anything I have bought from them in the past. It doesn't seem to matter what quality of disc you present it with either, it just accepts any old tat.
