There's a Lite On, AND There's Somebody In!
Review of LiteOn SOHC-5232K by
BNibbles
Advantages: Good value, space saving, can be made multi-region
Disadvantages: Not a DVD-burner, but very little else at this price
...where the £39 comes!
LITEON SOH-5232K*
*There is also a KX version, which is external, with its own case and connections.
This is what is known as a DVD/CD-RW ‘Combo’ Drive, that is to say that it will perform as a DVD-ROM and well as being a ‘CD Burner’. Of course, unlike the outgoing duet of bits, it can’t do them both at the same time, but I really can’t remember when I needed to do that. Watching a movie, for instance, is so hungry for PC ... ...little utility purposely written for LiteOn machines called LTNRPC which comes in a zip file from www.rpc1.org. This not only allows you to reset the number of regional changes back to 5 every time it gets close to zero, (which in turn uses up one your precious ‘vendor resets’) but also allows you to regain the full number of vendor resets too! It does has a facility for making the DVD player ‘Region Free’, but this can create problems with certain ...

combo-isation
Review of Philips JackRabbit 3 by
Gaz_23
Advantages: a REMOTE CONTROL!!!!!
Disadvantages: a bit slow when using usb 1.1
...but those crazy people at Philips have called this external USB 2.0 combo drive the ‘Jackrabbit’. Also, they have plastered the drive and box with zany pictures of a cartoon rabbit. Mad.
Now, the reason that you buy a combo drive is to get the fun of a CD-RW , with all the customized CD’s, and to also get the pleasure of a DVD-ROM drive, with all the DVD playing options. The problem with this is that a combo is usually very pricey, so most of us ... ...Now those people at Philips have decided it was time to give everyone out there a few added features to make it a whole load more fun to use this combo and to entice you away from the normal standard boring optical drives from other companies. They have made this so that it will work for PC and Mac, so Apple users out there aren’t going to lose out. This is what your machines going to have to be at least to have this baby;

Excellent drive at the right price
Review of LiteOn LTC-48161 by
drTamseel
Advantages: Excellent, reliable, robust, good value for money
Disadvantages: None whatsoever
When I bought a LiteON drive three years ago I had never heard the name before except on some Internet stores. I was in London for some exams after which I went to Tottenham Court Road to look at a few CD-ReWriters (commonly known as CD-writers) before buying one. I had compiled some material in different formats for my exam and thought to bring it all together on a CD to help out colleagues in the future.
Due to my exams I didn’t have much time ... ...bracket. Although I was shown LiteON drives in a few shops priced between 40 and 50 GBP I wasn’t much interested despite their assurances that this was a good CD-ReWriter. However, one salesman who looked quite knowledgeable told me that Compaq were using LiteON drives in their PCs for quite some time and somehow I believed him. So I came home with a 40 speed CD-ReWriter which had a CD-R (write once CD), a CD-RW (re-writeable CD) and a software CD ...
