Great Package
Review of Creative CD-RW Blaster 4224 by
merkus77
Advantages: lots in pack
Disadvantages: none
...some other budget models, the creative cd blaster is a good all round package that comes witha great wealth of extras. As well as nero burning rom software and the requisite connectors, opening the box reveals 10 cdr's and one cdrw as well as your very own cd labelling kit with 50 labels so i guess this is what you pay the higher price for but this does not mean there is a lack in drive performance, speeds are quick and i would strongly reccommend ...

Cheap but faulted
Review of Creative Labs by
Screm
Advantages: Fast, Fairly Cheap, Creative Provide Good Support
Disadvantages: Very Poor Performance, Mega Spins and Undetections Galore
At first this may seem like a very fast drive for a very reasonable price, however, you should not be fooled by this extremely buggy drive. After installing this drive in 2 system, both have experienced such problems as difficulties reading certain cd media, mega over spins when cd roms are inserted into the drive as it is trying to detect the disc and also sometimes the drive does not even appear in windows at all!
As for that 'Turbo' button I ... ...this button appeared to produce more problems than it is worth, causing many of the drives that it previously already had enough trouble reading succesfully to even have more problems.
This drive is certainly one to avoid folks. I would not recommend this drive to anybody and I just hope that people wont be fooled as I was. (BTW in both instances I was using this drive with the latest version of Windows 98 SE) ...

Bugged interface and drivers
Review of Creative Labs - 36x with Remote control by
QuinnTheEskimo
Advantages: Can show off to your friends
Disadvantages: Unstable
...was a time when a Creative product was a good product. The name alone was sufficient to know that your newly purchased soundcard would be compatible with every thing you could throw at it, and would be reliable, and stable. Somewhere along the product line, Creative changed. No longer were their products the reliable things that people were used to. I purchased one of the 36 speed cd-rom drives with an IR remote control. Beautiful thing, when it ... ...you would hope for. After install, my computer became instantly unstable, and the BIOS refused to acknoledge my second hard drive. After much fiddling, I discovered the cd-rom drive did not like sharing an IDE chain with another piece of hardware. The driver is also buggy, and slows your pc down even when the drive is not in use. When it works, as i say, it's nice - the remote control thing is so nice, and impressed people. But I could not wait to ...

Pioneering price for an antique DVD
Review of Pioneer DVR-212D by
suddenend
Advantages: Very, very cheap; SATA; Fast; Reads/Writes most DVD formats
Disadvantages: Only comes in beige; No DVD-RAM writing (Read Only)
...REVIEW
I bought my Pioneer DVR-212D, a few days ago for just £11 inc. VAT, BRAND NEW, from eBuyer.com. I hope you agree that's an incredible price for a S-ATA DVD rewriter.
I only really needed the Pioneer drive to aid in testing the functionality of another more current P-ATA DVD-RW drive that was exhibiting some very odd behaviour that I wasn't absolutely certain was the drive's fault, so I wasn't too fussy about it being highly specified. Having ... ...the drive vertically.
Being Pioneer I imagine longevity is a given, at least here in my household they have an enviable reputation for reliability. I have never managed to break anything I have bought from them in the past.
It doesn't seem to matter what quality of disc you present it with either, it just accepts any old tat. Even the really nasty 8x reject DVDs my local computer emporium tries to pass of as quality gear work in this drive, a welcome ...

Freecome DVD RW Recorder USB 2.0
Review of Freecom DVD RW Recorder LS USB 2.0 by
RMcCartyhy
Advantages: ummmmm
Disadvantages: Doesn't work very well, slow, intermitently recognises disks, poor back up service, need I go on?
I ordered my Freecom DVD Recorder LS USB 2.0 after my CD/DVD drive packed up on my 15 month old HP Desktop. I wanted it mainly to load CD ROM and burn DVD's from movies already converted to DVD format on my hard drive. Being that my PC had no disk drive I relied upon this external drive to load the bundled DVD burning software (Roxio 9). This took several days and many attempts. Then I tried burning my first DVD. After taking 3 hours to do a task ...
