...past. But I bought a Samsung drive (Super-WriteMaster SH-S202J) from www.ishift.co.uk and I must say that not only is it just as fast (20x) and I have seen no real difference in performance between the IDE or SATA drives as the Liteon and Pioneer drives but it is much much quieter! To be honest the whole build quality of the Samsung seems a lot better as well plus it came with the software I needed, unlike many of the Pioneer OEM drives I have bought. ...

...decided to go for another Pioneer drive as I have used them in the past and had very few problems, although it was marginally more expensive than some of the others at £18!!
When it arrived the first thing I noticed was that it was the same size as a normal DVD drive, over an inch shorter than my previous one. I'm not aware if all new drives are this size but it may be a consideration if you have a smaller case and are short of room. As I'm using ... ...jumper on the back to slave mode so that the computer would detect it properly. This was easily done which a clear set of instructions provided (once you find the right language!), the jumper was also quite easy to get hold of and pliers weren't necessary as I normally find they are.
Once plugged in I turned the computer on and windows detected it no problem and installed the correct drivers within seconds, after restarting it was ready to go. As ...

Advantages: Dual Layer Disadvantages: Slow loading Vista with setup screen and overall poor
I really dont like these LG Drives.
I will explain why
They are so slow
I loaded vista on one of my pcs and it took ages to even get though the setup screens.
Its quite fast burning dvds however i have notice that the NEC Drives are alot faster in both loading software, vista and doing cds and dvds.
I am quite disapoinent with these as i brought serveral and the performance is naff.
I would recommend using a NEC Drive or one simular.
Big disapointment.
... ...findings. The cd on the LG (This one was behind 1 and half cds than the philiips which was roughly 8 mins difference it was that bad!
DVD Wise The Philips finished 5mins before this LG Drive did.
Both machines were the same specification and the same media player burner media player 11 with windows vista!
So there you have it a performance match where this drive failed big time.
Sorry.. ...

Advantages: Amazing speeds, Easy to set up, Reliable Disadvantages: No firewire included with the burner.
...register your burner on the Plextor website and they will send you information on any firmware updates that become available. I know you can get external dvd burners at a lower price than you can get this one, but they won't be as good, well made and reliable as this and all Plextor products are. But if you want quality you have to pay for it.
So if you're looking for a quality external burner i would highly recomend buying this. ...

Advantages: Quick, Easy, Reliable, Small, Fits into any pocket or bag Disadvantages: Faded out use lately
I originally bought this external floppy drive a few years ago after the standard for laptops was not to have an inbuilt floppy drive already in them however at the time floppy disks were still in use from time to time. It doesn't mean that this can't be used for desktop computers that don't have internal floppy drives.
Power
*********
Usually when having an external device like an external hard drive or optical drive you would usually need more ... ...the power into a power socket in the wall and a separate cable to send and receive data between the device and the computer however with this external floppy drive it has completely changed. Now all that is need with this floppy drive is simply just one USB cable with a mini USB connected to the drive making it quick and easy to use when your on the move as well as easy to fit and store on the move with no extra cabling which could possibly get tangled ...
