A great little drive
Review of Sony MPF Floppy disk drive 1.44 MB by
mikerolph
Advantages: plug in and use
Disadvantages: none so far
Having recently had my computer pack up on me whilst moving house I decided to go out and get a new all singing all dancing one to replace it. What I did not even think of checking out as did it have a floppy drive on it! And of cours like a lot of modern machines it did not. Well I only use the floppy to back up my accounts and take them to the accountant so he can do my year end, which i had done on the old machine so when the disk came back there ... ...these drives as i did not want to open the case and start poking about. Talk about easy I plugged it into the usb and away windows xp whent and installed it and allocated it drive a so it worked with my trusty old accounts program with no messing about. compared to the fixed drive on my old computer i find it a bit slow but so far very reliable and thats about all you can ask from a simple divise such as a floppy drive. ...

Got a Floppy Disk?
Review of Freecom Floppy disk drive 1.44 MB by
burns2007
Advantages: Quick, Easy, Reliable, Small, Fits into any pocket or bag
Disadvantages: Faded out use lately
I originally bought this external floppy drive a few years ago after the standard for laptops was not to have an inbuilt floppy drive already in them however at the time floppy disks were still in use from time to time. It doesn't mean that this can't be used for desktop computers that don't have internal floppy drives.
Power
*********
Usually when having an external device like an external hard drive or optical drive you would usually need more ... ...the power into a power socket in the wall and a separate cable to send and receive data between the device and the computer however with this external floppy drive it has completely changed. Now all that is need with this floppy drive is simply just one USB cable with a mini USB connected to the drive making it quick and easy to use when your on the move as well as easy to fit and store on the move with no extra cabling which could possibly get tangled ...

7 in One Drive
Review of Mitsumi 7-in-1 USB Media Drive FA404M by
Sh4nn0w
Advantages: Space saving, relatively cheap, easy to install
Disadvantages: err..none!
Not too much to say really, but I've had one of these for a while now and placed it in my previously defunct floppy drive slot, and its great.
Not that I actually use a floppy drive these days except for doing a bios upgrade, but it with support for the majority of flash cards, its great. Its the same size as a normally floppy, so it doesn't take up any extra room, you just need to make sure you have a spare USB header on your mother board to use ... ...floppy drive, a floppy drive connector as well. (You could chose not to bother to connect the floppy drive anyway and just use it as a flash reader)
Prior to this a had various adpaters and things for using SD & Transflash, this just makes it easier, as it already there in the computer. I got mine in silver to go with my last case, but i've seen them in black as well.

Pioneering price for an antique DVD
Review of Pioneer DVR-212D by
suddenend
Advantages: Very, very cheap; SATA; Fast; Reads/Writes most DVD formats
Disadvantages: Only comes in beige; No DVD-RAM writing (Read Only)
...REVIEW
I bought my Pioneer DVR-212D, a few days ago for just £11 inc. VAT, BRAND NEW, from eBuyer.com. I hope you agree that's an incredible price for a S-ATA DVD rewriter.
I only really needed the Pioneer drive to aid in testing the functionality of another more current P-ATA DVD-RW drive that was exhibiting some very odd behaviour that I wasn't absolutely certain was the drive's fault, so I wasn't too fussy about it being highly specified. Having ... ...the drive vertically.
Being Pioneer I imagine longevity is a given, at least here in my household they have an enviable reputation for reliability. I have never managed to break anything I have bought from them in the past.
It doesn't seem to matter what quality of disc you present it with either, it just accepts any old tat. Even the really nasty 8x reject DVDs my local computer emporium tries to pass of as quality gear work in this drive, a welcome ...
