The IT Workhorse
Review of HP - 8200i by
andycharger
Advantages: Good CD writer
Disadvantages: Cost, Speed, Compatibility.
...for the 4 X Speed HP 8200i.
It Writes at 4 speed
It Re Writes at 2 Speed It reads at 16 speed.
Not that quick really but very reliable.
I have an LG one at home that is twice the speed of this and it is always causing Write errors.
The HP 8200i is an external drive that plugs into your computer through the USB port. You can get Parallel port connecting ones but these are nowhere near as good. Much too slow for data transfer.
Its very rounded ... ...Windows 98 (no good for development) or Windows 2000 (still highly untested)
Windows 95 has problems with USB compatibility so it too is no good.
If you have Windows 2000, buy yourself a HP 8200i.
At £150, its a lot of money but well worth the quality investment. ...

Dont be a cheapscape with this writers cds
Review of HP C4502A 9500i by
Ciren
Advantages: a copy for all siblings
Disadvantages: this writer didnt like cheap cds
...installed again. Wrote and asked hp what to do even.
Finally I found out what was wrong. Some cds it wont take as they are too transparant. The cheap, money saving ones I got were. Got some other ones and no problem at all.
So dont buy cheap it doesnt always pay as I found out.
As for the copying that is quick and perfect. Although you dont have to be silent be sensible and dont do stupid things (okay I did this too) and let your dog bark right ...

A great CD-R drive
Review of HP Plus 9300i by
smoran
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
This drive is excellent, really easy to install, and really nice to use. Comes complete with Adaptec software which is probably the best on the market in my opinion, very easy to use and navigate. The documentation that comes with the product is good, and so is the technical support that H P offer you as standard. Good buy, go get it !

Well working standard equipment
Review of Medion MD 9340 by
sploppy
Advantages: Good quality and reliability
Disadvantages: The price isn't anything extra special
...when trying to describe any Medion components. Obviously though is depends what configuration the equipment is, to how fast it coppies, reads and does any of the basic jobs that it has it's uses for. One thing I've noted though is that Medion are an honest company, so you get what it says on the side of the box. The CDRW I'm using goes up to 8 speed which runs very fast on our machine. But I'd say to you that the most important feature you are looking ...

An excellent writer
Review of Memorex - CDRW-4420 by
jonwhite
Advantages: efficient, affordable
Disadvantages: slow re-write speed
Memorex have a reputation for quality and this shines through with their CD writer / re-writer the 4420. Purchased just over a year ago as a solution to my back-up requirements and for the production of CD Catalogues for clients this piece of hardware has been invaluable.
It is both fast and efficient. 32X4X2 are its speeds. The only drawback is that the re-write is a little slow and the disks take an age to format but once formatted shouldn't need ... ...with reading or writing even on budget priced media. The drive stands up well to all other use. It plays audio CD's without problem and runs software, again without error.
The product came bundled with Adaptec Easy CD Creator, Direct CD, MGI PhotoSuite and Take 2 (a back-up program).
Priced at £129 when I bought it I think it is excellent value for money. ...
