Advantages: Dual Layer Disadvantages: Slow loading Vista with setup screen and overall poor
I really dont like these LG Drives.
I will explain why
They are so slow
I loaded vista on one of my pcs and it took ages to even get though the setup screens.
Its quite fast burning dvds however i have notice that the NEC Drives are alot faster in both loading software, vista and doing cds and dvds.
I am quite disapoinent with these as i brought serveral and the performance is naff.
I would recommend using a NEC Drive or one simular.
Big disapointment.
... ...findings. The cd on the LG (This one was behind 1 and half cds than the philiips which was roughly 8 mins difference it was that bad!
DVD Wise The Philips finished 5mins before this LG Drive did.
Both machines were the same specification and the same media player burner media player 11 with windows vista!
So there you have it a performance match where this drive failed big time.
Sorry.. ...

Advantages: Fast, especially DVD-RAM, reads and writes everything Disadvantages: No lightscribe
The LG GSA H22N Super-Multi is one of the first drives to up the maximum speed to 18X for DVD writing. Whilst not a huge increase on the 16X drives, it's a welcome boost. The various speeds and media types supported are:
Read speed: 48x (CD) / 16x (DVD) Write speed: 48x (CD) 18x (DVD±R)
8x (DVD±R DL)
Rewrite speed: 32x (CD)
6x (DVD-RW)
8x (DVD+RW) 12x (DVD-RAM)
Far more of interest is the support for DVD-RAM which many consider a superior format ... ...over the years and the LG ones have tended to be the most reliable and smoothest to work with. The LG GSA H22N can be picked up for around £24 or less which is a good price for this kind of performance. If only dual layer disks had gotten a little cheaper...
Overall a very nice drive for the price. It would have been nice to have Lightscribe for adding custom labels to suitable blank DVDs but apart from that there is little to complain about. ...

Advantages: "works" with Mac and Windows Disadvantages: Too many to list.
...work... (using Taiyo Yuden media bought from Microboards authorised retailers)
>Manuals... inexistent! After days of bugging their support, a PDF was emailed over...
> Support - rude and unhelpful most of the time. Takes days to get anything out of them
In short? Stay well clear from this product! ...

Advantages: Fast Write speeds, wide compatibilty, 20 speed dvd writing and CHEAP Disadvantages: Not any that i've experienced!!
I found this to be an excellent drive as i picked up one for around £30 and that was when it came out(last year, june). I think that this is an excellent drive for the fact it has a wide range of DVD and CD writing features; 20 speed writing, my favourite feature is the light scribe feature which allows you to design your own cd labels on a special 'lightscribe disc'. The Drive was also quiet, but not too quiet. I found the OEM Box that the drive ...

Advantages: Very Cheap, Changeable cover panels, Fast Speed Disadvantages: No firmware, Region Locked, Major issues with burning regular cd's
...and thus bought it as LG has become more reputable.
The Pros
This drive was very easy to install. It was practically a plug and play drive. It also came with different front panels in order to change colors from black and white. Although this may seem pointless it is a factor to take into consideration if you are after certain specification like color for your computer. The drive has never had a problem playing any cd's DVD's and etc. It ... ...this drive as it seems LG has forgotten about this drive and moved on.
3) This final problem is the killer part of this drive and the reason it is ranked so low. When durng xvid files and various other files onto a CD to watch on an xvid player and part of the files which are over 350 mb will not work. Thus typically TV shows are 350 mbs and meaning half the disc is wasted. Despite the cheap prices of CD's these days it still is a waste. Conclusion ...
