Blow Jobs are rational ladies.
Review of The Logic of Life: The Rational Economics of an Irrational World - Tim Harford by
atticusuk
Advantages: Thought provoking
Disadvantages: Not everyones cup of tea
...you had been presented with the chance of reading it many years earlier, certainly I think that if I had been able to read Tim Harford book "The Logic of Life: The Rational Economics of an Irrational World" to give it it's full title, my teenage life in particular may have been a lot more enjoyable. Sadly the book was only printed this year so it is rather too late but if, dear reader, you find yourself inhabiting the body of a spotty faced teenager ... ...loved one, or anyone of the opposite sex to read it. Let me explain what I mean.
We all like to think of ourselves as being intelligent rational people, we make decisions about our actions and on items to consume which we believe to be totally rational and in our best interests. In economics we have a concept called Economic Man, this is someone who makes entirely rational decisions, faced with two options they will always choose the one that maximises ...

Advantages: Excellent plain english writing, with bullet points and exam tips
Disadvantages: All the figures are in $
Cambridge
AS Level and A Level Accounting.
Harold Randall
Cambridge University Press 2005
I have never been good with figures. Well actually, I am hopeless; so during my second degree programme, Contact Centre Management, (the first was BSc Global Futures and Health Studies which involved no finance) the feel of dread and terror that I would have to study accounts and management accounts in semester 2 year 2 was overwhelming.
During the first ... ...Then I picked up AS Level and A Level Accounting and it was a small line in the preface that caught my eye 'this book is written for students of accounting who face problems by asking how do I do this?' As this is how I felt I read on.
The book separated in to three chapters each of which as a number of subsections Contents
1. The Accounting System
a. Double Entry Bookkeeping: cash transaction
b. Double Entry Bookkeeping: credit transactions

ckhawk

Disadvantages: Highly conceptual not for everyone.
...insightful view into not only the head of an economist but society as well. This is a book by and economists and some concepts like supply and demand are present however Tim Harford effortlessly weaves his ideas and concepts into your mind allowing you to explore why it is a teenage moving from vaginal intercourse to oral sex is rational, when perhaps at first glance there is no link at all, why your boss contrary to popular belief HAS to be overpaid. ... ...leaving you lost and in the cold think again, Tim Harford dedicates the first chapter just introducing you to the basis of the book so you can soon be seamlessly forgetting everything you thought of people and introduce you to the new economics of everything.
Everything from supply and demand in context and social ecomomics is apparent here but not using bar charts and graphs but by talking of wonderful areas such as "the marriage supermarket" but ...

Rich Dad Poor Dad
Review of Rich Dad, Poor Dad - Sharon L. Lechter, Robert Kiyosaki by
oliver_deguzman2000
Advantages: Very motivating
Disadvantages: All theoretical, but needs to be proven
...the two perspective of a Rich Dad, and Poor Dad. The Poor Dad who is his own biological father and the Rich Dad, who was his friends father. Both dads were good dads, but both dads have different perspective on how to become rich. Poor dad worked as a school teacher with the highest degree, while rich dad worked and build businesses. In the end poor dad worked his whole life. While rich dad became a multi-billionaire.The main thing that has been ... ...to be conscious on working smart rather than working hard. Robert Kiyosaki stresses that everyone should not work hard for money but to let their money work hard for them . This is made possible through a firm financial literacy and to know how to identify yourself in what quadrant you are in the cash flow quadrant. Mr. Kiyosaki indicated one investment instrument that is very risk friendly which is through real estate. But first of all one should ...

Freakonomics
Review of Freakonomics - Stephen Dubner, Steven Levitt by
sjwright
Advantages: Amusing, interesting, good value for money, readable by anyone
Disadvantages: Lots of figures
When i tell people to read this book usually the first response is along the lines of "economics? i would i waste my time reading a book about business? It has nothing to do with me". The fact is, as this book will show you, economics is not just about business, it is about the decisions we make in living our lives. Still not sounding appealing?
Well Levitt and Dubner don't just use normal examples, they use amusing and thought provoking examples ... ...Ku Klux Klan have in common?"
"Why do drug dealers live with their mothers?"
"How can your name affect how well you do in life?"
You don't need to know much about economics to enjoy this book although some knowledge allows you to understand some of the more complex points. There is also a lot of figures in some points which may put some readers off but are essential to back up the arguments they present in the book.
Overall its well worth the ...
