Ambient drum and bass taken to new levels
Review of New Forms - Roni Size/Reprazent by
cash40
Advantages: Original, beautiful, creative, imaginative
Disadvantages: Still a little to hard or a little too soft for extremists
New Forms is one of the only drum’n’bass albums to make it into mainstream acceptance. Roni has managed to make music that appeals to fans of normal types of dance music without alienating true drum’n’bass fans.
This feat cannot be overlooked as the two styles of music, although similar to an extent, are very hard to mix. True drum’n’bass as I would call it is some of the most intense music you will ever hear, with ultra-fierce drums and stomach ... ...masses has always ended up with watered down pap that is too weak and lame for the drum’n’bass massive, and still not dancey enough for the mainstream that it was intended for. (and no, I can’t think of any better descriptions than dancey!)
The hybridisation of drum’n’bass and ‘normal’ music resulted in Ambient drum’n’bass, which is sort of like drum’n’bass without the intensity, and sort of like dance without the beat. This leaves it as quite ...

Goldie - Rings Of Saturn
Review of Ring Of Saturn, A - Goldie (Drum & Bass) by
friedchris
Advantages: Brilliantly put together, over an hour in length
Disadvantages: No new sounds, similar to previous albums, orchestral voice mixes are annoying
Goldie's music has always been very controversial. He has always had close links with Metalheadz the drum and bass company which produce hot up and coming new artists. Goldie however has been on the scene for 10 years plus. Since his debut double EP Timeless was released in 95' people have realise that Goldie's talents are innumerable. Incredible mixing of the most creative sounds ever produced on the electronic scene. However I feel he may have ... ...recorded at Angel Sound and Trident Studios in London and features the following tracks:
1. Mother VIP
2. What you won't do for love
3. Hyena
4. Kaiser Salsek
5. Judged by colour heard by sound seen by blind
6. Unkle
7. What you won't do for love (grooverider remix)
In my opinion the grooverider remix of "what you wont do for love" is the best song on the album. It combines all the things we have come to love about Goldies music. The unbelievable ...

Goldie lookin' teeth?
Review of Timeless - Goldie by
bergmcberg
Advantages: A really top album, with wide ranging appeal
Disadvantages: A bit dark and heavy for some in places...
...London Records. The album was timeless - sorry - "Timeless" and featured very heavy drum rhythms, sparkling production work, and a wide range of influences and tempos for the tracks. Guitars and other "proper" instruments being used liberally & vocals courtesy of Diane Charlemagne, a silky voiced associate showed this could be a mature style of music, not just for 16 year olds with a GlaxoSmithkline level of chemical content, covered head-to-toe ... ...by one Rob Playford, who aficionados of the scene will recognise as the boss of the Moving Shadow record label, another great stable that has been turning out some of the most advanced and innovative music in this genre for well over a decade. Some people think that the greatness of the album was more down to Playford himself than Goldie, though this is debatable. Certainly it did no harm to have Playford's hand on the tiller. Here's a quick breakdown ...

Camp Champ!
Review of DJ Kicks - Tiga (Mixed By Tiga) - Various Artists by
seismicjab
Advantages: Nice variation of electro, house, disco and techno
Disadvantages: Camp overtone
One of the many infamous DJ Kicks albums, this one from the electro king of camp - Tiga.
Tiga's, from Canada been around for many years, owns his own electro/house label called Turbo. I have been a fan of his music and mix CD's since I started gaining an interest in electroinc music. Some of his early CD's and productions were more on a techno vibe with his latest stuff on the more electro housey tip.
Anyhow, this DJ Kicks installation is an oldy ... ...in the series. The style of it is mainly electro house with hints of disco and techno thrown into the mix, all tracks seemlessly mixed together in a nice progressive order. There is also quite a camp element in the album as he is prone to getting on the mic and singing a few lyrics. This is apparent in Miss Kitten's classic 'Madame Hollywood' which he has changed to 'Mr Hollywood' with the addition of some pretty camp lyrics but still quirky and ...

Best Classic Trance CD Available
Review of Classic Trance Anthems - Various Artists by
sm276
Advantages: All top tracks
Disadvantages: None
...I preferred instead to buy classic albums (such as the Annual 4, Trance Nation 4 etc...), but this CD really does break the mould.
This CD unlike all of the others around has 3 CD's packed with TOP tracks, rather than 20 - 25 great tracks and 15 - 35 filler tracks on all of the other classic albums.
I would definetely recommend this to any other trance fan. Especially fans of 98 - 02 (when IMO Trance was at its finest).
In conclusion - TOP CD ...
