Thrilling and Thought-provoking
Review of That Hideous Strength - C.S. Lewis by Kukana

Advantages: Excellent main characters, exciting, deep
Disadvantages: A little gory in places, could be disturbing for the squeamish

...is often involved in meetings that go on late, not letting her know until the last minute. They've only been married six months, so she doesn't think he's having an affair; rather, he's wedded to his job. More worryingly, Jane has been having regular nightmares which seem far more realistic than any dreams she's had before. One day she bumps into an old and comfortable friend, Mrs Dimble, and in conversation learns that her dreams may be more important ...
...was written, but not much that would be classed as fantasy. It's a very thought-provoking book. It's chilling in places, too: to the experimental centre, other humans are disposable commodities. When the evil powers start to become stronger, violence - even murder - happens without any hesitation. There is enormous tension as Jane dreams more and more vividly of events which are soon to happen, but neither she nor we, the readers, know what their ... Read review

Wisdom, Philosophy and 1930s Science Fiction
Review of Out of the Silent Planet - C.S. Lewis by Kukana

Advantages: Exciting, moving, thought-provoking, well-written
Disadvantages: A bit old-fashioned; have to suspend belief somewhat for 1930s sci-fi

...strange metal contraption which turns out to be a spaceship. He has been kidnapped, and is on his way with his captors to a planet called Malacandra where, as he overhears, he is apparently to be given to some monsters known as 'Sorns'. This book is science fiction from the late 1930s, somewhat in the tradition of HG Wells, and without the benefit of much knowledge of space beyond what astronomers could see through telescopes sixty-five years ago. ...

Bugging questions resolved through this book!
Review of The Magician's Nephew - C.S. Lewis by Jonni_boi

Advantages: Great read for younger children
Disadvantages: Very Narative

...felt that it really described the land of Narnia very good, what I really don't understand is why film companies do not bother converting this book into a film, it's worth putting up, because although the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is most commonly known, lots of people asks how did Narnia become Narnia? And why is there a witch in Narnia? Why is there a Lamppost there? And why is it a wardrobe that brings them to the wardrobe? I personally ...
...I went onto the internet one night, when these questions were enormously bugging me, and I found that the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was not the first book. Instead The Magician's Nephew was. So On another day I set out to find the book, I'm not saying it was easy to find but it wasn't hard either. I bought it home and began reading it straight away; I was enormously interested to find out these answers. Anyway, there are 2 main characters, ... Read review

My wardrobe seems boring now...
Review of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - C.S. Lewis by Amy69

Advantages: strong desctipitive language, suitable for all, easy to connect with, unique style
Disadvantages: /

When Narnia was released in the cinema last year, I was asked if I wanted to go and see it. And did I accept this invite? No! At that time, all I knew about the film was that it was fantasty-based, and seemed a bit 'kiddish' (though why this was a problem, I have no idea - it doesn't usually stop me!). So I missed my chance to explore the world of myth, and stayed at home instead. Alone. Then last week, I finished the most fantastic book in the ...
...had briefly seen Lord Of The Rings on tv, so I was in the mood for something full of exploration and fable. I searched the teenage section, only to find a bunch of books based on love and romance...not much variety or excitement there then! So I sauntered over to the classical section, a shelf in the library I would normally turn a blind eye at. Browsing along, reading the spines, I spied such titles as What Katy Did Next...The Railway Children...Goodnight ... Read review

One of the greatest books of all time
Review of Magician - Raymond E. Feist by molebert

Advantages: Well Written, Empathetic characters, Epic storyline
Disadvantages: Long, slow build up

This book easily ranks among the greatest fantasy books of all time, and as a testiment to this, I have already read this book at least five times already, with plans to do so again in the not to distant future. The easy writing style used by Raymond E. Feist not only transports you into the twin worlds of Kelewan and Midkemia, but grabs and maintains your interest throughout what is an epic story. I found I connected and empathised easily with ...
...characters were well defined and written. The world created within these pages is well defined and described, and even though it follows many generic fantasy stereotypes, the characters, story and depth of information combine to exceed the generic fare offered by many within this genre. Although Raymond E. Feist wrote several sequels and prequels, and although some are quite good, this book should always be considered the best of them. ... Read review
