Lion of Macedon - READ IT
Review of Lion of Macedon - David Gemmell by ysith

Advantages: Greek history with a touch of fantasy - Brilliant!!
Disadvantages: Not a single one

to put it simply, exceptional! I have read, re-read and read again many, many of D. Gemmell's books. All of them have been superb, but this is definateley in the top 5. The thing that really stands out for me is how well the Author has blended history with fanatsy and brought to like quite possibly the greatest era of greek history. The story is formed around the life of Parmeneon, the half-spartan half-macedonian general of King Philip of Macedon, ...
...time. Giving away too much of the story would certainly spoil the book for some, so all I will say is, if you are interested in greek history, buy this book. If you like Heroic Fantasy novels, buy this book, and if you are a Gemmell fan (and somehow has not read this book) buy it, read it, then re-read it. ... Read review

True love, true lust and true Heroism!
Review of Sword in the Storm - David Gemmell by VickyVickster

Advantages: beautifully written,engaging,realistic characters
Disadvantages: slightly slow paced

...of a warrior with a sword and shield and a ghostly bear standing by a large knarled tree. Below the picture is the name of the book in plain white bold print and the background colour to all this is a mix of orange, red and black. David Gemmell is one of my all time favourite Authors. He writes what is classed as Heroic fantasy. Basically all his stories involve war, fighting and battles set in fantasy world where high tech is chain mail and a running ...
...always plenty of love, sex, heroes and villains. Any book by David Gemmell is the perfect way to escape in to another world for a few hours. The particular book I am reviewing is called “Sword in the storm” and is book one of the four booked Rigante Series. With David Gemmell I find you do not have to read the series in order because each story stands alone but book one is always a good place to start. Connavar’s Father was killed when he was tiny. ... Well told story, and great character insight
Review of Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow: Lord of the Silver Bow No.1 (Trojan War Trilogy 1) - David Gemmell by B_O_M_B_A

Advantages: Sticks to the Troy story, but gives action, love and humour.
Disadvantages: None

This is the first of three books to the series and is a great opener. After reading the Emperor series by Iggulden i wanted something different and stumbled upon David Gemell. The book tells the story of the battle of TROY, both the lead up to and the inevitable horse infiltration. We get to meet a variety of characters in Lord of the silver bow, Helikaon one, along with a few other historical characters. I like the way Gemell will tell a part of ...
...from a different persons point of view, although you dont realise he has done it until you hit a crucial point and think...hang one, this has happened before, its brilliant! The story starts with an unlikley bunch setting sail on a ship, the biggest ever built which many think will not stand up to the ferocious sea, will it? ill let you find out. A great read, and although i have read all three books which i completed i about 2 weeks i might just ... Read review

Outstanding action/fantasy
Review of Knights of the Dark Renown - David Gemmell by tabigarasu

Advantages: Intense
Disadvantages: Sad

...coming together to reform the Knights of Gabala-for very different reasons-in order to fight the evil storming the land, across two different worlds. It also explores morality in shades of grey. If you've read Gemmell's work before, this is a must, and one of his best. The magical background to the book is well thought-out and the storyline holds together, including intertwining the prophetic with free-will. A true Gemmell fantasy. ... Read review

Echoes of a great book
Review of Echoes of the Great Song - David Gemmell by bensed

Advantages: Stand alone book
Disadvantages: none

I love Gemmell's books. It's as simple as that. This one is one of my all time fav's, it is a stand alone story of a race of technologically advanced people who manage to survive the cataclysmic "fall of the world" by that David means change in orbital rotation leading to the seas rising up and swamping the land. So the Avatars (a few hundred?) manage to make a new home in the north of the planet, they manage to subjugate the locals (Vagars) with ...
...from the race they subdue) they are facing an uprising and are in a tough spot. In an attempt to recharge the weapons they have one of their top scientist goes to the ice caps above their old capital. They manage to get some power from the source below, but a volcanic eruption puts an end to possible future trips. A great character in this book is Viruk a crazed killer who hears voices telling him to kill and know joy. I think he is great, totally ... Read review
