Not Quite a Feast, But a Decent Meal
Review of Feast of Souls - Celia Friedman by
Soho_Black
Advantages: A fantasy story with a darker undertone
Disadvantages: Difficult to visualise characters and distances
Whilst I tend to read fantasy more than any other genre these days, my first love has always been the horror genre. So when an author promises me a fantasy novel with a dark twist, then I am always likely to be interested.
"Feast of Souls" certainly offered this, with a couple of dark twists to the traditional fantasy themes. Prince Andovan is dying of a disease known as "the Wasting" and a large group of Magisters have been called together to try ... ...the cause of this illness is their particular form of magic, which drains the life force of other beings to allow them to create spells. This means that one of their number must be killing the Prince.
In another part of the world, completely unknown to all the others, a woman called Kamala is going through her own preparations to become a Magister. This is unheard of in Magister circles, as none of their number has ever been a woman before. Combined ...

'An ode to Gothic romanticism'
Review of Favole: Stone Tears - Victoria Frances by
Sabrina2090
Advantages: Beautiful, amazing art, wonderful writing
Disadvantages: long words
Favole: Stone Tears is a book written by Victoria Frances. She was born in Spain in 1982 and spent most of her childhood in forests. She thn travelled to large cities like London and Paris. Here her love of Gothic Romanticism took flight and she began drawing. She produced all the art for this book.
The book itself follows Ezequiel the vampire knight and the memories of the beautiful maidens he has released. There are three short stories. I will ... ...back and only 48 pages long. It was £6.99 from Play.com. It is publishd by Heavy Metal. There is another book which follows this called Favole: Set me Free. I am going to get that one soon so sometime in the future I am hoping to review that one aswell. ...

DEVIL,SATAN, LUCIFER, BEELZEBUB, PRINCE OF LIES
Review of For Love of Evil - Piers Anthony by
oakleigh
Advantages: Can be read as a stand alone book
Disadvantages: It is much better when read as part of the series.
...been!!!)
I enjoyed reading FOR LOVE OF EVIL even more than the previous five books, which i hadn't believed was possible. FOR LOVE OF EVIL shows how easy it is to fall from being almost angelic in goodness, to being almost demonic in Evil. It is also a good tutor for anyone who wants to learn how to lie effectively!!! In my opinion the characters that piers writes about are well formed and can easily be imagined and related to. The book's he writes ... ...************MAIN CHARACTERS IN FOR LOVE OF EVIL**********
parry= He is the main character, the book follows him as he progresses through life beginning as the sorcerers son, later becoming a friar named father grief and finally is corrupted enough to take the position of the lord of Evil named Satan.
Sorcerer= Parry's adoptive father
Jolie= when we first meet Jolie we find that she is a peasant, she is also to become parry's wife.
Fabiola= A ...

You'd be a fool to not read
Review of Fool Moon - Jim Butcher by
super-t
Advantages: Simply, its an amazing book.
Disadvantages: None
Fool Moon starts a few months after the end of the first book, Storm Front. Harry Dresden is called in on a murder case by his friend Lieutenant Karrin Murphy of the Special Investigation Unit of Chicago P.D.
Realising that the murders are related to a super-natural being, namely were-wolves, he puts his quick-thinking mind into finding the culprit. However, though there are suspects a-plenty (how many were-wolves can Chicago have?) none are disqualified ... ...book is all the better for it.
Like the first book, this is written in 1st person, and you get Dresdens quick wit and humourous insights along with his feelings and thoughts. In this book, you get a more indepth view of Murphy, and how she thinks and Dresden shows he is human by showing deep feelings of regret, compassion and guilt. The novel seems to be slightly moralistic in the way that Dresden has to decide between helping his friend, or telling ...

Brilliant continuation of the series.
Review of Feast for Crows (Song of Ice and Fire) - George R.R. Martin by
cersei
Advantages: The plot is excellent, as in the previous three books.
Disadvantages: The book involves the characters in King's Landing, but not the others.
I very much enjoyed reading this book, and have even re-read it a couple of times. George Martin certainly does not dissapoint his readers - the plot is absolutely great, as always. It is impossible to predict what is going to happen next. The characters are very strong, and the chapters of the new ones have been added. I am happy that there are chapters for Cersei now, since I thought that in previous books she has been overlooked and appeared as ... ...character from other angles. However, the book describes only events in King's Landing and Dorne, and the next book should describe others. The language is elaborate, witty and very intelligent, but still is easy to read. Once you start reading this book, it is impossible to put it down - the plot is so catching and unpredictable. And as always, George Martin leaves plenty of room for speculation and wondering about what is going to happen in the ...
