Bye-bye Bilbo
Review of Bilbo's Last Song - J.R.R. Tolkien by SarahP

Advantages: beautiful poem, beautiful artwork
Disadvantages: Bit pricey

“Day is ended, dim my eyes, but journey long before me lies.” These words have been etched into my brain for over 25 years. Ever since I was given a poster in 1977. The poster is still on the wall, obviously a different wall to when I first got it as I have moved house several times since then. It is currently residing in my kitchen of all places! You could almost say it is my prized possession., even though I still haven’t managed to frame it yet! ...
...poster? And what has it to do with a book? The answers are simple. The poster has a poem on it, Bilbo’s last song. It is Bilbo saying Good bye to Middle-earth, which is a very sad thing to do, but with sadness is also the excitement of sailing off to distant lands. And this book is the poem in book form. For those of you that don’t know who Bilbo is, well he is a Hobbit or Halfling created by J.R.R.Tolkien. A children’s fantasy book was written ... Read review

Tolkiens new book?
Review of The Children of Húrin - J.R.R. Tolkien by bnmnmmb

Advantages: much easier to read than some of his books.
Disadvantages: Simply reworks a story already in print.

...massive fan of all of the works of Tolkien, I was very excited when I heard that there was a new book coming out, despite him having died 35 years ago. When I bought the book I was deeply dissappointed to discover that this was not a 'new book' as such, it was simply a reworked and edited story that has already been printed in two seperate sections in The Sillmarillion and his book of unfinished tales. None of the advertising or reviews that ...
...like the hobbit instead of the historical layout in the Sillmarillion. If you havn't read the Sillmarillion then I would highly reccommend buying this book as it presents one of the best stories from this long book in a much more easy style. If however you have already read most or all of Tolkiens works then I would avoid this book, as it merely repeats a story that you will have already read in a different style. ... Read review

Frodo lives
Review of The Fellowship Of The Ring - J.R.R. Tolkien by lotrnut1

Advantages: Work of true art
Disadvantages: You won't be able to put it down

...He draws you into the story with fascinating details about places and people that make you feel like you know them as good or better than your family. He gives vivid word pictures that capture your mind and make you feel like you are actually sitting in the shire, or in rivendale, or better yet lothlorien. You feel as if you are walking the paths with the fellowship every step of the way. The book is so well done that you might even shed tears at ... Read review

Review on J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit"
Review of The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien by RedTape

Advantages: Very many.
Disadvantages: None

...and so caught up in the plot that you are loathe to put it down. This award winning fantasy novel occurs some time before what happens in the book "Lord of the Rings", and thus focuses on Bilbo's adventures with the ring and Thorin's dwarves. So basically, if you read or watched "Lord of the Rings" and wanted more background information on how this ring got into Bilbo's possession this is the book to read. It's also a good book for all those who ... Read review

Advantages: new style of cover
Disadvantages: no pictures

this boxset is the three books in one which is good so you dont have to go out and buy them all!but generally they r good books much better than harry potter and they really capture your imagination. They have a much better looking cover than the old ones more adult if you like. It contains the fellowship of the ring, the two towers, the return of the king which all make the Lord of the Rings which have recently been made into films one for each ...
