A guitar that's also a work of art!
Review of Gibson 1960 Les Paul Special Electric Guitar by
drifter_2000
Advantages: Wonderful ringing tone. Incredible sustain.
Disadvantages: Very heavy and expensive
Firstly, I should get one thing straight. The LP is made of solid mahogany so it's very heavy. Despite having a very thick and comfortable shoulder strap, I still find it difficult to play for long periods of time. However, that's probably the only drawback of a truly legendary guitar that is played by (among others) Jimmy Page, Gary Moore and Slash.
The standard design of the Les Paul is arch-top with single cutaway, two humbucking pick-ups and ... ...control gives a good range of sounds-one good for picked intros, one for warm sounding chords and one for distorted powerchords. The mahogany construction gives the guitar a 20 second sustain, which coupled with the high output on the pickups makes it ideal for long and distorted sounds. Despite the weight factor, the guitar is a very ergonomic and thus comfortable shape and comes in a variety of colours. The nicest I've found is a red mahogany body ...

Let there be Rock!!!!
Review of Gibson SG Special Electric Guitar by
matsu65
Advantages: It's a Gibson!
Disadvantages: None that I know of...it's a Gibson!
I saw my first Gibson SG in the 80's when I went to see AC/DC during the For Those About to Rock tour (yes, unfortunately I am that old!). As I walked away from that gig I swore to myself that I would own one of those guitars one day. Twenty years later I finally realised my ambition when my brand new Gibson SG Special finally arrived on my doorstep.
First the specifications:
Two 490 humbucker pickups
Mahogany body
Rosewood fingerboard
Dot inlays
... ...bite, killer good looks and the Gibson logo on the headstock. Tell people you own a Gibson and watch their chins drop. Professionals might want the Standard or one of the custom shop versions, but for the intermediate player you would have to go a long way to beat this. ...

Supreme!
Review of Gibson SG Supreme Electric Guitar by
george_wright20
Advantages: Sounds awesome
Disadvantages: price tag not for a uni student
...regular SG however, unlike many Gibson SG guitars, which feature the sunburst (red and yellow) or black finnish, this one had a rich blue wood stain. I imediatly fell in love with the colour it was something i hadn't seen in Gibson before it stood out from other Gibson guitars yet still had, for those of you label addicts out there, a nice silver gibson logo on the headstock.
The guitar, though i got it in blue, is also avalible in yellow/red and ... ...no different to a regualr Gibson headstock for either an SG or a Les Paul.
There is no scratch plate on this guitar, in my opinion, and this is my review, this is a great choice as it desplays much more beauty to the guitar and doesnt by any means restrict it.
~SOUND~
After mindlessly wondering round the guitar in the shop i then noticed that the shopkeepers eyes were, not so mindlessly, following me around, no infact he looked more like a bird ...

gibson sg by willc
Review of Gibson SG Supreme P90 Electric Guitar by
mopmanwill
Advantages: great origional sounding guitar that you can never get bored of
Disadvantages: in my opinion the guitar doesnt have any disadvantages.
This is a really classical and original guitar used by bands such as AC/DC. I've had this guitar for 3 years now and i still never get bored playing it. The guitar has a really nice worn varnish finish and two amazing double humbuckers great for blues and rock style music. The sg produces a variety of elegant tones which i never get bored of. The fretboard is very rounded and sort of slides into the palm which makes it easy to navigate around the ... ...suits many different styles of music. The shape of the body makes it really easy to reach those high frets and the long neck makes it easy to play quite low beefy riffs. Its a attractive guitar and has a certain originality about it. The scratch plate compliments the worn colour and the volume/tone controls become a second part to the guitar. The guitar has a through neck and is very light. ...

Second hand /88 sg Re-issue
Review of Gibson SG ´61 Reissue Electric Guitar by
MARK1980
Advantages: Its a Gibson. Small, light body. Great sound
Disadvantages: Fragile neck
Having just bought a Gibson SG '61 Re-issue I thought I would let everyone know how good it is.
It was made in 1988 and is in good condition for its age. I had never played an SG before getting this one so I was taking a bit of a chance but I am glad I did. It is like a cross between a Les Paul and a strat and might well be the most versatile guitar that I have ever played ( I have played quite a few )
The build quality is great and I think the ... ...the original so much that Gibson re-released it.
Soundwise it is similar to a Les Paul but with a slightly thinner sound. sometimes a Les Paul can be overpowering but the SG doesn't have that problem.
The pickups are PAF copies so they aren't too powerful, great for classic rock or blues but not so good for heavier styles such as heavy metal.
The guitar holds it's tuning pretty well. ...
