The Samsung Spinpoint has, for the past year or so, been the hard drive of choice for those looking for good value. I needed a new hard drive recently, and I had no reservations whatsoever about getting this. When it arrived, I installed it and was immediately impressed at how much quicker my computer felt to use. ...The SATA II interface allows for fast data transfer, and I could copy files about my series of folders with great speed. This model is only 250GB, and so is inevitably not quite as good value as the 500GB model (in terms of £/GB, where it sits at about £0.17/GB compared to £0.12/GB), but I cannot see myself using any more than what is provided, and unless you have an extensive media collection it's probably worth saving the ~£20 and getting this ... The hard drive is meant to be used internally but I use mine as an external hard drive with an USB external enclosure. The drive might not be the fastest around but it is fast enough to use for those large files that makes life difficult. The fact that it uses SATA makes faster than IDE hard drives of the same size. Well, I just completed a week using the 120GB Xbox 360 hard drive, and I have to admit it was worth it! The capacity,looks etc. all made it worth it, especially since for me it was free (got it from a friend). I bought one of these drives yesterday at Tesco - £39.97 - what a bargain, in the big electrical stores its well over 50 quid... However, when I plugged it in and tried it out I discovered that it reads as a 149GB drive. Thinking that meant it was faulty, I returned it to the store and made an exchange (that was painless, so kudos to Tesco!). The thing is, the new one reads as the exact same 149GB!
