Good starter kit
Review of Bush DVDAV11 by Sywat

Advantages: Good sound, cheap to buy
Disadvantages: cheaply made, low power rated speakers

Got this product as a christmas present back last year, within 9 months of buying it two of the speakers have blown. replaced the main two front speakers with two 750watt awia speakers and they run purrfic. now the system has more depth and volume. the dvd player's 5.1 output is very quiet but we use the 2channel output (headphone socket in TV) and use the surround boost on the unit and it works brilliant. i would recommend this and then change ... Goodmans 1990 DVDF
Review of Goodmans 1990DVD by markybaby76

Advantages: Cheap, Built In Freeview, Small, Compact, Pleasing to the eye
Disadvantages: Poor Sound quality, No Dolby Pro Logic, getts hot

I purchased this based on price. Big mistake! While it does have alot of features including Freeview, the sound quality is awful if you connect all the speakers. Basically if you connect the subwoofer it creates a buzzing sound that is very intrusive ant any volume, even if you press mute on the remote the subwoofer buzzes away. The remedy for this I found was to disconnect the subwoofer and change the sound settings to joint stereo, but then you ...
...that it has a place in the home as an economy 5.1 home entertainment system. It has Freeview, CD/DVD with Jpeg and MP3 support, plays DIVX Files, FM/MW radio, optical output and AUX in. But it appears that price matters when you but audio equipment, but on a plus note it plays DIVX and I have only just discovered this so I have rerated the product based on this feature as I see it as a majour plus. ... Mega MOS
Review of Ministry of Sound DV124 by rhyrhy1

Advantages: Great Sound, Great Looks
Disadvantages: Flimsy disc drive, hard to use

Ministry of Sound - DV124 Before I start, I'd just like to say how much trouble I had trying to find a good review of a CD player to see what I should put in mine, but I couldn't so here goes. Contents Choosing the Brand Sound Picture Playback Appearance Features Installation and ease of use Display Opinion Value for Money Comparison to other brands Summary Choosing the Brand I began to look for this in May, and spent a good two months ...
...Sony when a friend mentioned ministry of sound to me. Although they aren't a reputable make, it would mean a good quality for a much lower price. I walked into Macro's and I saw a MOS £99.99 with everything I needed. I hit the internet, and eventually found it at Comet for £89.99, but used the Curry's price promise to get it for £89.95. Sound quality Absolutely incredible, I really can't fault it, apart from the fact it's too loud, but I think ... Read review

Fantastic sounds all around from my surround!
Review of Panasonic SC-PT 150 by andycharger

Advantages: Great sound and price
Disadvantages: Looks a bit dated and remote fiddly

...and feel, the retro feel Panasonic PT-150 is a sure winner with me. Reason for purchase. After setting up my old fireplace as a "hole in the wall" entertainment system, I experienced one major problem with my Sony surround sount system. It stopped working. Reason being that old soot and debris had fallen down the chimney and filtered through the air vents into the workings and shorted it out! Not to be put off my my idea, i fixed the falling soot ...
...Surround sound that fitted with the room and matched the other items. This would need it to be Silver in colour, the same width dimensions as the Sony ( to fit on the mounts) and thin in height (to fit in the narrow clearance). IT would also need the following conenctions so I could connect it directly to me set up. At least 1 Scart for the Sky X box, Phono plugs for connecting the Xbox 360 sound and built in DVD player to prevent buying a new separate ... Read review

DTS and DivX for under £100? Buy it!
Review of Philips HTS 3100 by cactuscake

Advantages: DTS, Dolby 5.1, Dolby Pro Logic II, DivX playback
Disadvantages: No SPDIF inputs/outputs

...sound and theater system from Philips an offers excellent value for money. I was attracted to this model as it offered DivX playback as well as DTS surround sound (not two things you're likely to see on the same disc but both come with their own merits). The DTS sound is amazing, I spent several minutes just switching 5.1 sound and DTS just to hear the difference. It also plays Dolby Pro Logic II from freeview broadcasts and includes a very clean ...
...and well insulated so they don't get damaged if stepped on. The only complaint I have is that they didn't include 5.1 channel inputs as well as outputs, I would have preferred a system with SPDIF input so I could attach my laptop for surround sound but it only has stereo inputs. The design is sleek and the display is bright and clear even through a glass cabinet. ... Read review
