Don't buy this if you want true surround sound
Review of Pioneer DCS-370 by
pksmith
Advantages: Ok for DVD surround
Disadvantages: No TV surround. No digital optical cable.
Pioneer have really let the side down with this model. It is not capable of converting TV sounds sources to Pro Logic surround sound!! The best you get is stereo from the front two speakers via a RF cable. It doesn't even have a digital optical cable! What a let down! As a DVD player it does what I expect it to but the reason people buy these systems is for full surround, including the ability to convert TV sound to surround. Not worth the money ...

Fantastic sounds all around from my surround!
Review of Panasonic SC-PT 150 by
andycharger
Advantages: Great sound and price
Disadvantages: Looks a bit dated and remote fiddly
...and feel, the retro feel Panasonic PT-150 is a sure winner with me.
Reason for purchase.
After setting up my old fireplace as a "hole in the wall" entertainment system, I experienced one major problem with my Sony surround sount system. It stopped working. Reason being that old soot and debris had fallen down the chimney and filtered through the air vents into the workings and shorted it out!
Not to be put off my my idea, i fixed the falling soot ... ...Surround sound that fitted with the room and matched the other items.
This would need it to be Silver in colour, the same width dimensions as the Sony ( to fit on the mounts) and thin in height (to fit in the narrow clearance). IT would also need the following conenctions so I could connect it directly to me set up. At least 1 Scart for the Sky X box, Phono plugs for connecting the Xbox 360 sound and built in DVD player to prevent buying a new separate ...

Signs & Wonders
Review of Samsung HT-TX 35 R by
sghawken
Advantages: Fantastic sound quality
Disadvantages: None
...house was slowly become a Samsung house I felt that they had to be the brand to supply me with my new equipment.
The new move wore me out and I spent a week trying to plug up the courage to install my new system, if you have ever installed one of these or even a stereo with separate speakers its not necessarily a difficult job, but its incredibly fiddly and time consuming. My last Cinema sound system which I bought about 6 years ago was a right ... ...It's by far my best Samsung purchase to date (or win come to that) and proves that these Cinema Sound systems have come on leaps and bounds since their first appearance in homes in 1994. If you consider yourself a film enthusiast then there can be no other set up for you. And for the record the new version of Blade Runner sounds absolutely amazing, and goes down in my books as being the best sounding movie I have yet to encounter. ...

Sony DAV-IS 10
Review of Sony DAV-IS 10 by
EasyExercise.co.uk
Advantages: Picture, Sound, Design, Small Speakers
Disadvantages: Price
...can be viewed on the Sony website.
What Attracted Me To This System?
I wanted something that was modern looking and sophisticated.
It was highly rated by What Hi-Fi?
The speakers are very "subtle" and wall mountable - I didn't want large in your face speakers.
Sony is a quality brand that I rate.
I wanted something that gave good sound quality from music CD's (I use it as a Hi-Fi as well).
My Verdict?
Whilst I wouldn't class myself as a "tv/vision/hi-fi" ... ...The music quality from CD's is cracking, considering this is not a dedicated music player. The bass is not overpowering, just a quality feeling. The mid range from the 5 wall mounted speakers is also superb (especially given their size - I still wander how they can produce the sound they do!!!). When watching DVD's the sound quality really does bring the film to life (very realistic sound reproduction).
Setting up the DVD player was straight forward ...

Samsung htx-30
Review of Samsung HT-X30 by
kinganto
Advantages: clean looking, excellent quailty, low price, great sound
Disadvantages: not a full hd player
Having purchased the Samsung HT-X30 in a package deal with a Samsung 42" plasma, i can say that i was impressed staright away.
The main dvd unit is the same piano black as my tv, with an eluminated blue power button, again the same as my tv. This system upscales into HD, 1080 to precise, when coupled to an hdtv via a hdmi cable the quality is outstanding, maybe not as good as a genuine hd player, but not bad. I had a top of the range pano 1000w ...
