'48 - 28 Days Later in WWII
Review of 48 - James Herbert by Sa1sysoo

Advantages: Incrdibly easy to read, and less supernatural than his other books
Disadvantages: Disturbing scenarios... what he does best!

I hope to do this James Herbert review more justicve than I did his last! I encountered this book in the none-to-glamorous venue of my local Post Office. Seeing that it was only £2.95, I thought, why not? I had enjoyed the last Herbert book I had read, and I had heard elsewhere that he had received good reviews for some of his other books, which I am yet to read. '48 is based three years after the end of World War II, but it didn't end in the way ...
...a slightly premature end by Hitler, who through desperation to win the war at any costs unleashed a chemical weapon. This chemical weapon back fired though, as it killed everyone. Well.... not quite everyone. Would be a short book then, wouldn't it?! The chemical weapon attacks the blood, and depending on your blood type, you either die a quick, painful death as everything within you ceases working due to the blood thickening, or if you're unlucky, ... Sometimes Horror is in the mind....
Review of Creed - James Herbert by Sa1sysoo

Advantages: Easy to read and cracks along at great pace
Disadvantages: Not very gory or very supernatural

...as James Herbert books go, Creed never made my jaw hang open in disgust or shock and it isn't the goriest, unlike some of his other books, but the idea behind the book is an intriguing one... could demons be wandering amongt us? His demons aren't as clever as the one in 'Fallen' (the Denzel Washington film), but more similar to those in 'Constantine', and it caught my attention in the same way. The book is cleverly written, with each chapter concluding ... Read review

Rats, Rabies & Radiation!
Review of Domain - James Herbert by wendybull

Advantages: Excellent descriptions
Disadvantages: It's the last one!

Domain is the third in the series from Herbert, based on the mutant, giant killer rats. In my opinion it is the best of the three and can be enjoyed as a standalone book or if read in order as a trilogy it is even better. OVERVIEW London and the surrounding areas are hit with five nuclear bombs. The warning sirens are very late to wail and very few have time to escape to shelters. Hundreds flee into underground railway stations to avoid the blasts ...
...are simply blown to bits or crushed and mutilated from collapsing buildings. Culver was on his way to the bank when the sirens began their frightening alarm, and whilst running to find appropriate shelter, he bumps into Dealey, a man who has been blinded by the flash of the bomb but who knows of a government shelter that will protect them if they can reach it. Down into the tunnels of the underground station they go, watching countless atrocities ... Read review

Dog/Man or Man/Dog
Review of Fluke - James Herbert by wayne7

Advantages: Not a scarey horror storey
Disadvantages: You might ned to read twice to grasp

A different, thinkers horror book. Probably in the Horror Genre because of the author and and his earlier books. Dated now but does stand the test of time A relatively short book compared to some other horror writers but no less a good book. It is different and starts you thinking from page one. Then undertake the trek of a man to recover his life only to find out he is a dog. Or the trek of a dog to regain his life as a man. It is difficult to ...
...but is this dog a man or is this man a dog. Suffice to say he has 4 legs and barks so why should he think like a man and as soon as he realises who is is(was) then why is he a dog??????? Re-incarnation it might not be but this dog has a grudge so don't take his bone. Go to your local library and borrow the book. ... Read review

Trashy Classic Horror
Review of Haunted - James Herbert by amylovelace

Advantages: A very easy read - with an unexpected twist!
Disadvantages: A bit cheesy - especially the film

This is a classic scary story... it was the first I read by James Herbert and it got me hooked! It is a trashy horror - a nice easy read - but I wouldn't reccommend reading it alone in bed! It's so good that a film was made based on this book - film is a bit cheesy! It can be very frightening in parts - but if you are already a fan you will expect this. It is like one of those ghost stories you hear - that you are not sure whether to believe ... Read review
