'48 - 28 Days Later in WWII
Review of 48 - James Herbert by
Sa1sysoo
Advantages: Incrdibly easy to read, and less supernatural than his other books
Disadvantages: Disturbing scenarios... what he does best!
I hope to do this James Herbert review more justicve than I did his last!
I encountered this book in the none-to-glamorous venue of my local Post Office. Seeing that it was only £2.95, I thought, why not? I had enjoyed the last Herbert book I had read, and I had heard elsewhere that he had received good reviews for some of his other books, which I am yet to read. '48 is based three years after the end of World War II, but it didn't end in the way ... ...a slightly premature end by Hitler, who through desperation to win the war at any costs unleashed a chemical weapon. This chemical weapon back fired though, as it killed everyone. Well.... not quite everyone. Would be a short book then, wouldn't it?!
The chemical weapon attacks the blood, and depending on your blood type, you either die a quick, painful death as everything within you ceases working due to the blood thickening, or if you're unlucky, ...

Rumble on Ryushi
Review of Aliens vs Predator: Prey - Steve Perry, Stephani Perry by
pdoyle007
Advantages: Excellent opening to the series
Disadvantages: Probably only for fans
...have a limited number of Aliens running round. Then a second party of Predators, mainly juveniles but also with several more experienced warriors and one main leader, will go down and kill the Aliens as a rite of passage.
The problem is that humans have only recently colonised Ryushi and they find themselves falling prey to the Aliens. Also by accident one egg contained a Queen Alien meaning that rather than a limited number of Aliens their population ... ...the colonies leader Machiko Noguchi, an asian female with a cold manner. She has similarities to Ripley in the 'Aliens' series, although she is never a stereotypical machine-gun toting bad ass. She carries alot of baggage but is still one of the first to realise what is going on and try to organise some kind of defence against it.
The second main character, rather refreshingly, is the lead Predator - Dachande. He is a legend amongst his kind and ...

When the storm warden is away
Review of Bitter Gold Hearts - Glen Cook by
Coloneljohn
Advantages: Further humourous goings on
Disadvantages: Getting hold of a copy
Her children will pay
Garrett has a reputation for being a straight man. If you need help with a kidnapping then turn to him.
Somebody has kidnapped the son and heir of a magical and merciless Stormwarden and help is needed before she comes home. A very beautiful half fairy asks for Garrett's help for the family. Garrett always was a sucker for a distressed damsel.
Shortly after the damsel is killed and the ransom disappears. Garrett has to try ... ...of the stormwarden, and try to recover the gold with a whole raft of ogres and others anxious that he does not do so. Even the Kingpin, the crime lord of the underside of TunFaire gets involved.
This is the second outing of that ex-marine and ladies man, Garrett.
Together with his friends and allies Morley Dotes and Saucerhead Tharpe, Garrett has to sort out the facts from the stories. Garrett is now living in a house with the Dead Man and a cook/housekeeper ...

Vampire lovers kick ass
Review of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Spike & Dru: Pretty Maids All in a Row - Christopher Golden by
drusilla
Advantages: Action packed, sends shivers up your spine!
Disadvantages: Readers who aren't fans of the duo may be disappointed
...movie and the TV show, Buffy Summers, is the Chosen One. She, like all Slayers, has a Watcher, someone to help and guide her. The Watchers council (“and ancient organisation composed of men and women far removed from the actual battle between good and evil”) is, as it has ever been, based in London, England.
British vamps, Spike and Drusilla hit our screens during the third instalment of Season Two, to set up home in an abandoned factory ... ...most dullest, so fans of Buffy especially, may be disappointed. I felt more inclined to take the side of Spike and Dru; despite all the evil acts they perform. They are put across quite well, although you don’t get the chemistry that Juliet Landau and James Marsters have on the TV programme.
Written by Chris Golden, author of many Buffy spin offs, including the ‘The Watchers Guide - the Official Companion’, this historical fantasy ...

Slaying Beauty.
Review of Cold Copper Tears - Glen Cook by
Coloneljohn
Advantages: A funny story book 3 in the series
Disadvantages: Getting hold of your copy
Garrett is sitting quietly sharing a beer with a friend gossiping about the latest Temple scandals when walking into his life comes a tall blond damsel.
She has a problem that she wants Garrett to sort out. She states that she knew Garrett in the Old days before he was called up. The case seems open and shut. Take care of something bothering her. But Garrett has learned to take a second look.
Shortly after into Garrett's life comes The Grand Inquisitor ... ...work to another detective instead.
Then there is an attempt on his own life and suddenly there are plots and corpses piling up. Garrett has been fingered by an old cult that has some very nasty ideas. Even the Kingpin gets involved again. He thinks that he has a debt owed to Garrett and does not like his word being doubted. They had the temerity to threaten him, and nobody threatens the Kingpin unless they have a great deal of power.
Kids gangs, ...
