Review of '64-'95 (Limited Edition) [Digipak] - Lemon Jelly by steve0898

Advantages: Amazing talent
Disadvantages: Not enough tracks!

First of all, for all you Lemon Jelly Virgins out there, a little background: Franglen and Deakin initially released three limited-circulation EPs, The Bath (1998), The Yellow (1999), and The Midnight (2000), which they produced into a massive album in 2002. Lemonjelly.KY, which was a huge success. Their second album Lost Horizons, was released in 2002, and was another big hit. The album featured the singles "Space Walk" and "Nice Weather For Ducks" ...
...a BRIT Award for Best Dance Act category in 2004. This album '64 - '95 released in 2005, shows a harder and more interesting sound than previous albums. It's called 64-95 as each track features a single sample taken from between 1964 and 1995, incorporating each sample in a host of imaginative ways. It has a track featuring vocals by William Shatner. The album was released alongside a DVD under the same title, with each of the album's audio tracks ... Read review

It's almost worth the title!
Review of '64-'95 - Lemon Jelly by Vspawn

Advantages: Fantastic, top notch tracks. Sampling at its best. Real dancey material in there.
Disadvantages: Lack of variety.

INTRO Lemon Jelly have done it again. They have sent a very powerful message to all artists and bands out there: that you can't cut corners with quality music. '64 - '95 is their latest album and boasts a fantastic selection of tracks. THE LEMON JELLY METHOD Lemon Jelly form their tracks by "sampling". This is where they take a theme, riff or idea from a particular track from another artist and use that with other beats, tunes and vocals to collate ...
...use their own vocals in the track and will themselves play instruments as a part of the track. Their talent and creativity is obvious from first listening. They have something very special. With the latest album, Lemon Jelly (or Fred Deakin and Nick Franglen) have sampled tracks between the years of 1964 and 1995 (hence the title '64 - '95). For each track on the album, it tells you the year in the cover that the track sampled came from. There are ... Read review

It's Bigger Than Hip Hop
Review of Let's Get Free - Dead Prez by XICripZ

Advantages: Deep lyrics
Disadvantages: Not much variation. Not suited for many

The Dead Presidents are an underground Hip Hop group from Florida. They are very alternative for their gene as they explore themes many would not dare go into. They give an 'in-your-face' approach to educating people on politics, racism and religion, despite the fact the duo are atheists. What they are also known as, dead prez, is written without capital letters for a reason although I cannot remember exactly, I think it was something along the lines ...
...special, so why should special characters be used for their name. dead prez are said to be "somewhere between N.W.A and P.E. (Public Enemy)". So if you think of this combination, you will have the hardcore elements of the West Coast gangsta rap group, but their message will be more political, and is able to be heard by public that are more likely to take action as a result of it. dead prez are nothing like any other Hip Hop group, they are a group ... Review of Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya [ECD] - Boyz II Men by jcneil

Advantages: Great vocals, Superb
Disadvantages: None

...it shows all their names. Nathan Morris, Michael McCary, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris. **Nathan, Michael, Shawn, Wanya 1.) Beautiful Women This is a great uptempo track to open the album with, From the opening chords you know it is going to be a great track to dance to and the vocals are on top form as they move through the song efforlessly. This track is about the beautiful women of the world and is such a catchy song. 2.) Step On Up This ...
...with his expressive voice but Nathan and Wanya Morris also perform lead duties on the song too. 6.) I Finally Know This is one of the best tracks on the album and the first real ballad on the album. This has such a relaxed feel to it that you should just sit back and close your eyes and listen to the beauty of this track. This track is about discovering how deep your feelings are for someone when they have been there all the time. I'm sure many ... Read review

Tha Aliens Of ATL
Review of ATLiens [PA] - Outkast by XICripZ

Advantages: Very original
Disadvantages: Concept to album doesn't hold on

Released in 1996, "ATLines" was the second album relase by the pioneering Atlanta Hip Hop duo OutKast. It wasn't until much later on in 2001 when they released "Stankonia", coming out with singles such as "Ms. Jackson", "B.O.B." and "So Fresh, So Clean" when they received mainstream attention. I felt that in comparison to "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik", the debut record from them, this was less experimental, showing that they had worked out a ...
...sound with other duos in the region such as 8Ball & MJG and UGK, and without them, we may not see the domaintion which the Dirty South may over Hip Hop today. 1. You May Die (Intro) 2. Two Dope Boyz This is one of the best tracks off the album as we are taken on a strange little journey with "Two Dope Boyz In Cadillac", and the adventures which this duo of drug-dealers get up to. I felt that this was a strange foundation, but in made for a very ... Read review
