Review of The Complete Yes Prime Minister - Jonathan Lynn, Anthony Jay by frkurt

Advantages: Very British, very political, very funny
Disadvantages: Alas, more true to life than we might wish

...following that grew up about the television series Yes, Minister and its successor, Yes, Prime Minister. So popular was this show among political types that journalists, politicians and bureaucrats could be assumed to be unavailable whenever this show was on television. Margaret Thatcher even edged her way in by playing a brief scene with Eddington and Hawthorne. As with many of the better BBC productions, a companion book was released to accompany ...
...the style of 'The Diaries of a Cabinet Minister'. The successor volume followed Hacker into No. 10 Downing Street with the same flair and hilarity. From the very first page of the forward, the tone is set: ----- Before going into politics full time, Hacker (the minister in question) had been first a polytechnic lecturer and, later, Editor of 'Reform'. When the diaries were first transcribed they were hardly readable, having been dictated very much ... Read review

Like.... totally..
Review of Trading Up - Candace Bushnell by cocoklo

Advantages: Easy to read, Witty
Disadvantages: Far too long for a book on this topic

Much to my surprise, I really enjoyed reading this book. I opened the cover and expected to find a series of shallow (and wholly uninteresting) encounters between people I was likely to deem shallow and wholly uninteresting. Instead, I found the backpage reviewers comment of "Jane Austen with a Martini" to be blindingly appropriate. This book is a good read for anyone who enjoys traditional women's fiction or indeed, the wry humour of Jane Austen ...
...goes far to bridging the gap between the two genres. It follows the story of the young protagonist, Janey Wilcox, lingerie model through her rise and rise through the ranks of the famous and superficial. Through her marriage to the highly 'appropriate' (and far too nice for her), Selden Rose, her sexual exploits as she uses her explosive good looks to get exactly what she wants and to her eventual (and much applauded) downfall, flat on her pretty, ... Lock, Stock and One Smoking Barrel
Review of Barrel Fever - David Sedaris by BoyWonder7

Advantages: The Santaland Diaires, gives 'freaks' a voice
Disadvantages: Some stories are too dark and disturbing to be funny

Barrel Fever is a collection of short stories that have come from the twisted mind of David Sedaris and some essays that have come from the equally twisted life of David Sedaris. His humour is bleak, dark, disturbing and also laugh-out-loud funny. In his stories Sedaris writes as a horny teenager, a waster, an unloved suicidal woman, a father who's doesn't bother with hospitals because he believes he can treat everything himself - each one an American ...
...the wonderful Santaland Diaries, detailing Sedaris' time working in Macy's as an elf - you'll never think of the department store Santa in the same way again! His humour is very near the bone and sometimes Sedaris goes too far and repulses his readers. But in the end the writer's unusual way of looking at things and clever obsevations save the day making this a must-read book. ... Read review

Your Boss is an idiot
Review of Dogbert's Top Secret Management Handbook - Scott Adams by Dogbert

Advantages: Very funny, scarily accurate, good value for money, Very Funny!
Disadvantages: Scott Admas drawings have improved leaps and bounds since this book, it can look a bit dated

It had to happen, sooner or later, so I though I may as well make it sooner. With a username like Dogbert I had to write at least one opinion on a Dilbert book, whether or not it will be the first and last is yet to be decided. Incase you have no idea what a Dilbert book is, I’ll try to explain. There are over 10 Million copies of Dilbert books in print, and even that figure is a little old now. The comic strips are featured in more than 2,000 ...
...the most successful syndicated comic strips in history. So if you haven’t heard of Dilbert what have you been doing? The first book The Dilbert Principle and this book were both number 1 New York Times best sellers and have sold over a million copies of each! The books are a very humorous and yet painfully accurate look at the world of Business. So if you have ever worked, there will be something in this book for you. Dilbert books (I think) ... Frivolous & Fun:-)
Review of Fabulous Nobodies - Lee Tulloch by cherroxi

Advantages: a quick and fun read
Disadvantages:

...Easy to read, Fabulous Nobodies is a witty novel filled with social satire and frivolous fun. I really enjoyed this book. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down and I had to remind myself not to laugh out loud when reading on the bus. ... Read review
