Carry On Loving - the novel
Review of Carry On Loving - Arthur Norman Giller by tinny

Advantages: Better than Carry On Doctor
Disadvantages: still too 'in your face'...innuendo is not subtle

REVIEW OF CARRY ON LOVING Author Norman Giller Following my review of Carry On Doctor I am pleased to be able to write a few words about the second book I have read in this series of six, Carry On Loving. PLOT: The setting up of an un-dating agency is an inspired idea and would certainly make a natural continuation of the film. This, in my opinion, is in contrast to the rather predictable Save Our Hospital plot of the previous novel, Carry On ...
...ammunition too. In typical Carry On fashion it is the women - or in this case WOMAN - who shows herself to be stronger than the men and makes them look foolish - but the obligatory happy ending doesn't disappoint. Most of the scenes are original but there is one obvious rehash from the film and that is the Bertram Muffett/Sidney Bliss/Esma Crowfoot saga, this time replaced by Bernie Biddle/Sidney Bliss/Sheila Blige. The only other criticism in ... Read review

Not your usual travel tale
Review of Cooking with Fernet Branca - James Hamilton-Paterson by Raye0274

Advantages: Comical, unusual
Disadvantages: None

I first came across this book during book club. It was in the first round of the Man Booker Prize a few years ago and our reading group had decided to read all the books nominated. I didn't pick this book - was given something else - but when the book was put back on the table I picked it up and found it highly enjoyable. Some of the recipes in this book that is anything but a cookbook, although it does contain some recipes of the rather unpalatable ...
...(made with cat), but his reasoning behind them and the way that the two main characters, Gerald and Marta, come across is enough to make you root for them both in their own separate yet connected lives. Pick up a copy of this book and sit down and read with a nice glass of wine (or two) and a classy box of chocs, you won't regret it. ... Read review

Hee Haw
Review of Crabbit Old Buggers - John K.V. Eunson by Nar

Advantages: many
Disadvantages: many

Hello and welcome to the review that should have been here. It was here but its not here now as I have taken it and put it into my private stash somewhere else. It may well appear somewhere else online and if it does it will have my name on it. Thank you to everyone, to all the people in my COT over the years who have stuck by me and who have been great influences over the reviews I have written. It is indeed a sad case that reviewers have to come ...
...sense at all when the original content should be listed and frankly because of endless problems with Ciao I no longer have the time and energy to carry on. Each time I tried, it didn't work. Each message I sent to other members, they didn't appear. Each rate I applied, it didn't show. So that's the end of it. Ty for reading. ... Read review

Classic Clarkson: Hilarious
Review of Born to Be Riled - Jeremy Clarkson by jonwebb5

Advantages: Very funny, huge variety of subject matter, lots of book for your money, informative, passionate
Disadvantages: Doesn't suit being read in one go, topics recycled and stale towards end

Born To Be Riled is good. It's probably not Jeremy Clarkson's best book, but it certainly makes for great reading, either as a bedtime book, where the short columns are ideal for a quick spell, on the commute or on holiday. It will certainly make you laugh, and the variety is great. It's just missing that little something. The best, and in some cases worst, thing about Born To Be Riled is the fantastic scope of subject matter. Clarkson writes about ...
...connects you to the book. Born To Be Riled is humorous and interesting to read, and is very easy to pick up and get into, perhaps making it best read in short spells, allowing more attention to each individual column. Born To Be Riled certainly has the wit and charm of Clarkson's other books, and the only thing that really lets it down is perhaps it is so long, that by the end, you've read about everything two or three times. However, it is definitely ... Read review

Gary Larson - remember his name!
Review of Cows of Our Planet - Gary Larson by mysticninja

Advantages: hilarious
Disadvantages: not enough of it!

...hilarious! He doesn't just do cows though; chickens, bears, ants, ducks, scientists, and many more feature! There are some of his non-cow sketches included, along with sketches that make sense, sketches that don't and sketches that are just plain absurd! If you're new to Larson you have to take a few minutes to appreciate each picture and the message it may (or not) be hinting at. Don't dismiss the caption, it usual helps the understanding, and ...
...then don't worry about it! The best book of Larsons is the 10th Anniversary Edition (not featured on here but should be!) which includes a bit of biography, original sketches, development of some of the more notable cartoons and plenty of his own thoughts about his work. It makes a very interesting read and enhanced by his natural narrative which gives you a sense of his natural wit and humour. Indulge your grown up childish nature, get a cup of ... Read review
