The Last Laugh
Review of Box 18: The Unpublished Spike Milligan - Spike Milligan by silverstreak

Advantages: A bonus for Milligan fans
Disadvantages: There won't be any more

...18', one of Milligan's meticulously-arranged box files in which he kept every scrap of paperwork, both personal and professional. Included in this posthumously-released anthology are various pages from Spike's appointment diaries, several unfinished (as far as Milligan was concerned) scripts, poems and stories, together with a selection of his drawings, photographs, and letters to friends and figures of authority, among them Princes Charles and ...
...Milligan didn't consider any of Box 18's contents to be ready for public airing, how much of it is up to his usual standard and actually worth publishing. It's a valid question to ask, and indeed, it isn't difficult to see why some of the sketches, for example, never made it beyond his filing system; for the most part, though, the book is vintage Milligan, and on balance, I believe Farnes was right to let his fans have one last laugh. There are some ... Read review

A giant list with a few jokes in each bullet point
Review of Is It Just Me or Is Everything Shit?: The Encyclopedia of Modern Life - Alan McArthur by neverfeargrahamishere

Advantages: Funny and witty.
Disadvantages: boring

The Book in itself is quite funny, full of witty jokes and remarks about almost anything. The book lists everything that the authors hate (in alphabetical order) and why they hate them. It is obviously going to get a bit tedious reading paragraph after paragraph on any random thing that the author dislikes, but when is reading an encyclopedia ever fun? This book is definitely not for the light readers, but meant more of a relaxing read for serious ... Read review

Extremely offensive book. Brilliant!
Review of The Bumper b3ta Book of Sick Jokes - Rob Manuel by davemandy

Advantages: New and hilarious jokes. Jest at everybody's expense.
Disadvantages: Could have been longer. Will cause offense to many.

This was written by the collective that is the b3ta community: Thousands of people who rank amongst the funniest of the Internetters. I bought this for a family member during Christmas and this book far exceeded its cost in entertainment value during Christmas Day. I would recommend this to everyone with a very open-minded sense of humour but beware; there are jokes in here which will offend every culture, race, sex, minority and the occasional ...
...and I think that if the BBFC covered books, this would not pass the 18 certificate. I have one complaint with this book: With all the content from which the website the jokes originated, a fraction of the excellent jokes made it into this book. This could have been longer and made me laugh for longer, but overall an excellent and refreshing diversion from the generic joke books. ... Read review

Time for a titter?
Review of The Penguin Dictionary of Jokes, Wisecracks, Quips and Quotes - Fred Metcalf by laramax

Advantages: Lots of amusing little snippets in alphabetical order
Disadvantages: Not side splittingly funny

...I could use some of the little gems in there to lighten the mood when I am doing business presentations or public speaking and it is ideal for that purpose. All the jokes are categorised and then the categories are listed alphabetically. The letters of the alphabet are printed on the edges of the pages (and staggered down the length of the book) making finding the gems you want simplicity itself. In addition at the end of each category they helpfully ...
...for research. None of the jokes are what I would call side splittingly funny but to be frank that wasn't what I wanted. I am not a comedian, nor do I have any great aspirations to be one, and comedy is as much about timing and "the way I tell 'em". That being so complex jokes worked into presentations can often fall completely flat - light humour can work best for the amateur and that is what this book contains. The jokes in this book are, mostly, ... Read review

Truth does not depend on geography.
Review of How To Be A Brit - George Mikes by HungryHungarian

Advantages: An in depth, informative, and most of all hilarious guide to England
Disadvantages: Can cause offence, though none is intended

...during the war, he learned how to adapt, and slowly became British. I should point out that Hungarian humour is a little different from English humour; it's rather like "Gallows humour". It takes a little getting used to, but it's great once you do! If you do read the book(s) you will see what I mean, and I'm going to include some examples from the books in this review as a taster! All excerpts are taken from "How to be a Brit" (André Deutsch 1984) ...
