Saga Louts = The New Lager Louts
Review of Wrinklies' Wit and Wisdom - Rosemarie Jarski by
suesie
Advantages: A laugh a minute
Disadvantages: The loo may be engaged when you need to use it!
I have been putting off reviewing this title because it is so difficult to convey the “flavour” of it and just how entertaining it is but with just five months to Christmas, I felt it was essential to pass on this handy tip for a present for older relatives! My god daughter gave this to me last Christmas and I have to admit that I was slightly offended by the choice when I unpacked it! After all, I might be pushing fifty but I am not in my dotage ... ...not acting my age! However as soon as I started dipping into it, I forgave her because it is the most entertaining and funniest collection of quotations I have ever encountered! Despite the humour, the author, Rosemary Jarski, claims a serious motive in producing this little gem. She claims:-
“ Senior citizens have changed and the rest of society has yet to notice. The clichéd image of old age is still common currency in our culture. Media and advertising ...

Not your typical dynasty...
Review of Blackadder: The Whole Damn Dynasty - Richard Curtis, Ben Elton by
frkurt
Advantages: A great companion to the series
Disadvantages: -
The Blackadder series, begun in the 1980s, was a comedic masterpiece set forth by Rowan Atkinson and his comrades. From start to finish, the first series was a masterstroke of wit, irony and comedic styling that fits both the contemporary and medieval situations perfectly. The combination of slapstick and intellectual humour blended well, and the literary types will not miss the occasional credit of William Shakespeare as a collaborating writer on ... ...comedy Shakespeare would have produced today. The first series was set in the pre-Tudor royal family, projecting that Richard III won at Bosworth Field, and a rather older Richard IV succeeded him, until after many adventures, the entire royal family was done in, and Henry Tudor reworte history thereafter (as the victor often does). The first series starred Brian Blessed and Elspet Gray as the King and Queen, and Robert East as their eldest son, ...

Foxes and environmentalists in the headlights
Review of The World According to Clarkson - Jeremy Clarkson by
atticusuk
Advantages: Funny in places
Disadvantages: Lacks consistency
...aware of Jeremy Clarkson through the excellent TV programme Top Gear, a show that is not just for petrol heads as it is also one of the funniest programmes on TV as well given some of the stunts and challenges they do. In the show he is the arrogant, opinionated alpha male with a hearty dislike of Europe, foxes, anything environmentally friendly and French cars. Oh and political correctness. In addition to his TV work he also writes a newspaper column ... ...Apart from the toilet reading on offer at my sister house this was the first Clarkson book that I have read and I was interested to see if the humour generated on Top Gear could be translated into the written word. The book itself is made up of a series of short, two or three page, rants or observations on a myriad of topics that stretch from the opening page discussion of an additional public holiday to such varied topics as the joys of the circus, ...

I'm obviously a bright boy!
Review of 211 Things a Bright Boy Can Do - Tom Cutler by
martin0201
Advantages: Humorous, got some good tips
Disadvantages: Some might not find it funny
... The Genre
211 Things a Bright Boy Can Do is a humorous book, so I would certainly say it falls into the Humour category and the publisher obviously agrees as this is what says above the barcode on the back, although some may say it could be a Reference book due to the recipes and suchlike in it. The Author
This is what it says in the front of the book:
"The son of a sex therapist and a sometime Dominican friar, Tom spent his early ... ...at a cloistered university. He began his professional career with a number of false starts as a teacher, set designer, double bass player, speechwriter, printer, toyshop manager, lyricist, wine waiter, City consultant, puppet maker, typographer, magazine editor, bandleader, portrait painter, radio reporter, cartoonist, and ghost writer for Cardinal Hume, before leaving the rat-race to spend more time with his slippers. Tom has written two acclaimed ...

Everybody's Got To Be Somewhere
Review of Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall - Spike Milligan by
PJE_
Advantages: Funny and real.
Disadvantages: Ends before the shooting starts.
...have been four sequels to Adolf Hitler - My Part In His Downfall:-
Rommel: Gunner Who?
Monty: His Part In My Victory
Mussolini: His Part In My Downfall
Where Have All The Bullets Gone?
After the war, Spike teamed up with Harry Secombe*, Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine to create that ground-breaking BBC radio comedy The Goon Show (1951-60). A manic depressive, the pressure of writing the weekly show led to a nervous breakdown. Later, his 1960's ...
