Lasat Speed II
Review of LASAT Speed II by
highlandsaver
Advantages: Small, External, Comm & USB, 64 & 128 kbps
Disadvantages: Have to use configuration porgram to change BOD settings.
...my work but fine the Lasat Speed II the most reliable and simplest for the end users.
With internal modems if the line hangs then you must reboot but with external you can reset the device.
The Lasat can be set (with the management software) to give Bandwidth on demand BOD linking both channels 64+64 128 kbps.
With two analogue ports on the back you can connect your phone and fax alongside your ISDN line, I find this very handy.
Connection to ...

A rather usefull box...
Review of 3Com ISDN Pro Terminal Adapter by
trafalguar
Advantages: Easy and saves you PCI slots
Disadvantages: Expensive
Hello.. this is my first opinion on uk.ciao.com ... now this is one of the most usefull grey boxes on that scale i have ever seen ! Because of the sililarites between LAN and ISDN connections they can both use the same wire, RJ45, and so £com created a card which would not only serv as your ocnnection to the internet via and ISDN line... But AT THE SAME TIME communicate with the other computers on the network. This is ideal for Internet connection ...

It worked fine if only
Review of 3Com Sportster ISDN Terminal Adapter by
little.devil
Advantages: Easy to install
Disadvantages: Finding the right cable
Recently a friend of mine installed the 33.6k version of this product into an old but srvicable computer. There was no driver disc for it because it had been misplaced but he downloaded a driver from their very helpful website which is www.usr.com. He checked that the modem was correctly installed and all was well until....
Those of us who are not in the 'know' would assume that any phone cable is the same as the next one but oh no, this is not ... ...the hope that it would enable the modem to communicate with the outside world but no luck. It is annoying that companies make modems that require differnet cables especially when they don't make it clear exactly which one to use.
Unfortunately the website did not offer a solution, or at least it gave a string of numbers to contact which would have been time consuming so i'm afraid the modem came out and was returned to the shelf. ...

Review of 3Com 3ComImpact IQ ISDN Modem by
console
Advantages: ISDN speed, easy set-up, trouble-free use.
Disadvantages: Can't think of any!
...and unstable. In contrast, the 3Com Impact is blazing fast and virtually hands-free. Once you set up the usual TCP/IP and PPP settings, the modem runs like a champ, not to mention its good looks (small, sleek and white!). The front panel display could be a bit more descriptive, but since I haven't had any connection problems, I never have to read the front panel anyways.Did I say fast? No more World Wide Wait. ISDN is a very fast alternative... ...

Expensive but good
Review of 3Com Sportster ISDN Terminal Adapter by
AndreBoyle
Advantages: 3COM build, good drivers, fast
Disadvantages: Cost
I've written other 3COM/USR opinions on this site so if you've read them you'll know how I feel in general about ther kit :- Expensive but generally worth the money in terms of support and quality. (Winmodems aside!) This product is no exception to that rule. The cost is indeed up there in comparison to other endors but the package you get in as good as you'll get. Card, cables, excellent manuals, drivers and a lovely shiney box. Installation is ... ...be, and the drivers worked after a fashion on NT. In terms of operation the system works just the same way as a standard modem but connects a lot quicker and runs a lot faster. Performance when connected was as good as the ISP used at the time. The card itself performed well and didn't suck up too many system resources when running. All in all a very capable product, if a little steep on price. ...
