Small Linux
Review of Linux Pocket Guide (Pocket Guide: Essential Commands) - Daniel Barrett by blueonred

Advantages: Smallest Linux book around, Easy to read, Quick reference
Disadvantages: Lack more comprehensive detail

The Linux pocket guide is the second Linux book I brought, its essential a slim down command 'man' page with examples and helpful tips, its a great quick reference book to browse through some simple Linux commands, but don't expect it to provide more obscure vim options or complex shell scripts. The main advantage Linux pocket guide is it's slim 200 page size, making it a truly pocket sized guide. Although the book is slightly dated (2004) and is ... Read review

Fortran 90
Review of Fortran 90 Programming - T.M.R. Ellis, Ivor R. Philips by blueonred

Advantages: Good Beginner Book
Disadvantages: Expensive

Fortran is one the oldest programming language around, and one of the most popular in computationally intensive numerical algorithms. Unfortunately, it lacks many features regarded as essential in High-level programming language, although this has been addressed in subsequent revision, from Fortran77 to Fortran90/95 to Fortran 2003. The most popular and widely used version is still Fortran 90/95. Fortran 90 programming by T.M.R. Ellis, Ivor R. Philips ...
...which covers most subjects on Fortran programming. Another book to consider is Fortran 90 / 95 for Scientists and Engineers (which covers Fortran 95 in more detail) With small number of Fortran books available, this also means that they are very difficult for find and expensive to buy compare to C or Java books, I would recommend to borrow this book or using online tutorial papers before deciding to buy. ... A Must Have for Security Professionals
Review of Hacking Exposed - Stuart McClure Joel Scambray by AkashS12

Advantages: Covered number of topics, great examples, overview of security tools
Disadvantages: few examples are very basic and could be little more in-depthed

Hacking Exposed by Stuart McClure Joel Scambray is primer or I would say is the bible on the topic of "Hacking". I came across this book during my MSc. It's a great book, which explain ABC of Hacking and also provide countermeasure to mitigate those vulnerabilities and mis-configuration erros. A must have book for all who wants to learn basics of the hacking as well as very useful book for the System/ Network Administrator. Proper examples and codes ...
...number of Security tools are mentioned in the book with useful commands and configuration. However, it is not a book about learning how to use the security tools, rather it will give you an idea, "where to use the that tools". Overall, it is a great book and if you are into Hacking/ Sys Admin or Network Admin or just want to learn about the Security, then you should buy this book ... Read review

Not for complete Dummies...
Review of Building a Website For Dummies - David A. Crowder by HT414

Advantages: A great use to experienced Webmasters who wish to enhance their site
Disadvantages: Of little use to complete beginners

I had been interested in how Web Design worked for a while, so I decided I would delve into the topic. I knew of a friend who had created a website having no advanced technological knowledge, which spurred me on to go out and learn for myself. Of course I had spent time trawling through Internet Forums, but I thought this was no substitue for a book, something I could refer back to. The selection in my local bookstore wasn't huge, but this title ...
...series to be incredibly useful, and explain processes in entirely understandable ways. It seemed the perfect choice for a beginner like me. The title, 'Building A Website' seemed to suggest it would reveal how to put together the basic structure. It also stated on the back that I would be able to discover how to 'Build pages with an HTML Editor'. With a brief flick through the contents, I saw a whole section devoted to 'Building Your Site'. Perfect. ... Read review

Beautiful Code - deep but enjoyable
Review of Beautiful Code (Theory in Practice (O'Reilly)) - Greg Wilson by ilaskey

Advantages: Wide ranging, new ways of thinking
Disadvantages: Heavy going

Beautiful Code, subtitled 'Leading Programmers Explain How They Think' is a collection thirty plus essays by some of the top programmers around today. names like Charles Petzold and Brian Kernighan should be recognisable to any developer but many of the others may be less familiar but nonetheless have much to offer. It's also worth noting that all royalties from this book go to Amnesty International so hats off to all concerned for their generosity ...
...about code. It can be beautiful in any number of ways and each contributor explores a particular subject and provides code examples to illustrate a language construct, algorithm or principle that they hold to be beautiful. As an example of the developer's craft at its finest, this book can't help but impress. Where it falls down somewhat for us is that much of the subject matter is rather esoteric and I suspect the majority of developers will go ... Read review
