Great digital, analog hybrid.
Review of Korg DW-8000 by corianlightsphere

Advantages: Great sound. Programmable joystick.Great midi interface.
Disadvantages: Many of these have seen ALOT of use. Tacky action.

These were advertised as digital synthesizers when they were released, in 1985, but today we know that the controllers are digital, but the filters are analog. This is a great combination that hasn't been properly duplicated since. I was lucky enough to buy a set of 10 cassette tapes which contain 20 banks of sounds for these things, and some of the sounds people have programmed with this board are GREAT! One of the banks has the best sounding piano ...
...better then the sample based ones I have!) This is a synthesizer, so thats really amazing to me. If your just looking for a keyboard to play leads, or to trigger with another keyboard via midi, this thing can't be beat. I prefer it to even much more expensive boards. While on one hand your possibilities are virtually endless when programming this thing, at the same time, there aren't so many parameters that you get lost. The menu is written right ... Read review

VIBES FROM THE TRIBE.
Review of Korg EM-1 by BustyBabe

Advantages: Brilliant for patterns
Disadvantages: none

Korg EM-1 is an easy to use, self-contained unit with great sounds and tweak ability. Anyone wanting great dance patterns to make their own music, this an excellent choice if you are a beginner, not least in the terms of the inspiration and educational value of the programs that come preloaded. You get a self-contained system for creating dance music, using a 16-step pattern sequencer with two monophonic synth parts, eight drum parts and effects. ...
...we will be using a Korg Triton and this works excellent with it.. Basically it comes packed with pre set patterns which you can use for either a song, or patterns going into your workstation, most of the patterns that this comes with are house/techno, drum ‘n’ bass, r&b/ hip/trip hop, nu school breaks/big beat and another (disco, funk, Latin house and reggae). microRUBBISH!
Review of Korg microKORG by brunocrosier

Advantages: lightweight
Disadvantages: too many - look at the review..

The microKORG is one of the best selling synthesizers worldwide and has been used by several electronic bands such as Enter Shikari and Massive Attack. The box simply contains the tiny 2kg microKORG itself, the vocoder microphone, power supply and manual. Users may at first be surprised by exactly how small the product is if they haven't seen it in real life before. It has only 3 octaves, and the keys are reminiscent of those found on a toy keyboard. ...
...any Bach or Beethoven on this baby, as it is almost impossible to get any articulation or expression in the cheap, plastic, weightless keys. The preset sounds that are supplied are the epitome of mediocrity. On the other hand, the modulation wheel on the left of the keys is extremely handy and easy to use. However i felt that apart from the modulation wheel, it was very hard and complicated to change any of the attributes of the sound - mainly because ... Read review

X-Station
Review of Novation X-Station 61 by brunocrosier

Advantages: Price, Amount of Keys, Ease of Use, Runs off USB power, Mixer Incorporated
Disadvantages: No Grand Piano, No Record Function, No weighted Keys

The Novation X-Station is bursting with a large variety of functions and features well suited to any avid musician. It is ready to use straight out of the box, and extremely easy to understand. I would highly recommend this product to any musician - particularly those interested in the Electronica/Dance genre. This is due to the synthesizer's lack of grand piano sounds. I would also say that the price is one of the X-Station's greatest assets. At ...
...than its market competitors. Another advantage of using the X-Station is that it has a mixer incoroporated in its design; a feature that will have all bedroom musicians laughing. It has all the necessary inputs and outputs that one would expect from a synthesizer, as well as space for one IN/OUT phantom powered microphone. To add to this, the X-Station runs off your PC or Laptop's USB power. However there are a few negative points to the X-Station. ... Read review
