Review of Panasonic Toughbook 28 - PIII-M 1 GHz - 13.3" TFT by ruthpern

Advantages: Very robust and sturdy case
Disadvantages: A little slow when compared to newer laptops

The Panasonic CF-28 comes in many flavourers, the CF-28 I use has the following specification. RAM: 512MB CPU: Pentium III Mobile 800 MHz Hard Disk: 512 GB Operating System: Windows 2000 Weight: 3.6Kg Physical Characteristics Left Hand Size CD and Floppy Disk Drive Module Bay. Back Serial Port, Parallel Port, External Video, Port Replicator, Mic and Headphones sockets, Single USB port, Keyboard or Mouse PS2 port. Right Hand Size ...
...PCMCIA Port, Modem Connector, Network Connector Underneath Removable Hard Disk Drive, Battery These CF-28’s come with the touch screen option install and the touch sensitive glide pad. The normal glide pad works using the electrical charge of the person’s finger and will not work when tried with an inanimate object. The touch screen works in combination with the glide pad or external mouse (if one has been connected), generally the touch screen ... Read review

Good Stuff basically
Review of Compaq Armada 1750 - PII 366 MHz - 14.1" TFT by Varidhi

Advantages: Sturdy, Easy to use, Value
Disadvantages: Bulky, dated.

I've owned an Armada for three years and I haven't had any problems with it (I've dropped it once). Mine is a P2 366 mhz, with 64 mb ram, and 6 gigs hard-drive, floppy and cd rom drive. It runs on WINDOWS 95 which is getting out-dated now purely because alot of software and especially games are no longer compatible with it. That said, although it has glitches, some of the later versions even more so. The screen is really big, and that has always ...
...are removable and the memory is upgradeabe, the ac adaptor is very sturdy too. It's quite fast for it's genre, although a little cumbersome in comparison to the latest models. It's interface is very user-friendly, and I personally feel very comfortable using it. Mine has a 16 mb video card which came as standard (it's a 1750), and has coped with alot of complicated graphics very well. It has an infrared port in addition to all the other necessary ... An ok pc once you've worked out the kinks!
Review of HP OmniBook XE3 - PIII-M 1.06 GHz - 14.1" TFT by Cuddlebunny

Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: Low memory

...had problems, first of all HP hadn't made the screen properly, one of the connections was broken, and then it turned out the motherboard was faulty. The adaptor cable I was provided with was also faulty. It's a nice laptop with a 14 inch screen, a Celeron processor, 128Mb RAM, only a 9Gb Hard drive, touchpad and Windows XP. It also has battery which has a 4 hour lifetime. The instruction manual that comes with it is very thorough and the troubleshooting ...
...installed 256Mb more memory and HP fixed the probelms, after they managed to break my touchpad fixing the motherboard. As for the weight, I find it very accessible and take it with me wherever comfortably. Overall the laptop is a good buy though you may require a larger hard drive. Only if you want to have any after sales service HP might not be your first port of call. ... Read review

Affordable laptop for home/student/work use
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 - Celeron D 335 2.8 GHz - 14.1" TFT by sheffield_fox

Advantages: Excellent performance at an affordable price
Disadvantages: Extra memory required, poor battery life, overheats easily

I bought the Toshiba Satellite A60 Pro through Misco around eighteen months ago and have found it to be a sturdy, good performing all round laptop. While it is by no means spectacular, for the price at the time of buying it would be hard to find anything better. It is available in 14.1 or 15 inch screens (I went for the 14.1in to aid with portability). It isn't the lightest laptop in the world but it is sturdy and after many days of carrying it ...
...any breakdowns. It comes with a whopping 2.8Ghz processor but the downside to this is that it overheats incredibly quickly. I found that if the fan on the underside was resting on my leg with no escape route for the air, then within about 10-15 minutes, the computer would switch itself off without warning and couldn't be switched on for a few minutes until it cooled down. Another downside is the lack of memory (only 256mb) meaning it's necessary ... Read review

best budget laptop
Review of HP Compaq Business Notebook nx9010 - C 2.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by l1nda

Advantages: factory installed and ready to use
Disadvantages: a lot of useless drivers taking up space

...XP CD, but on here HP dont try to hide it and instead is on the C drive with everything else, which is much better. Its very helpful having a floppy drive as many you have to buy externally, so great if you are at Uni or college and having to transfer a lot of work around. There are more spare sockets than I know what to do with! Ive tested the battery and it ran for almost 3 hours which is far better than the estimate although with use I expect ...
...Cds, they've included backups of HP documentation library, Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Windows XP driver recovery, Norton AntiVirus and Roxio Easy CD Creator. All of which are already installed so are only needed should you get a virus or mess up your computer yourself. If yu do, there was also a huge stack of manuals (most of which came in 21 languages) which double up as a coffee table! They are End user license agreement, Using ... Read review
