laptop
Review of Advent 6422 by cyberjunky

Advantages: small and compact
Disadvantages: battery runs low when playing dvds

The Advent 6422 is truly an amazing value for money, portable computer. I had been looking at Laptop’s for about three years, I liked the way they were so small and still had the capacity of a large desktop computer but in a more minute form. Anyway, I had got myself a new job and had earned myself enough money to buy my dream computer, so off I went to look at various places. In total I visited about different shops, 5 on the high street ...
...competitive prices. There own range Advent stood out as the most competitively priced and after much debate I set my heart on the 6422 model. It looked very nice in it’s silver/blue colour and had an excellent spec. I managed to collar a sales person who gave me the best deal imaginable. The Laptop was priced at £999 (reduced from £1199), which I thought was excellent enough. Then he progressed in to telling me, as it was the last one he could ... Read review

Advent is Poo
Review of Advent 7002 by Lexion

Advantages: You can use it
Disadvantages: So many to list

...who to target. 2) Advent is not reliable, nor are its componants. I had an advent that ceased working only after 3 months of use, and this wasn't regular use, 1 hour a day at most. It was taken back and the "Expert" showed how to get it working but it stopped working again. My problem with Advent is that its clumsy, go for a Toshiba or Sony. Its design is ok but the navigation is poor. It doesn't have a very long battery life, an hour and a half ... Read review

My first laptop was disappointing
Review of Advent 5490 by pinkelephantuk

Advantages: A more affordable option for you
Disadvantages: Poor build quality, noisy, overheats, heavy, screen flickers

I bought the Advent 5490 laptop for £800 in 2001. Perhaps this review may help more recent computer users who are trying to decide what to buy to be aware of the benefits and problems that I found with this product. Usage Everyday for word processing, surfing the Net, emailing. Aftercare I purchased an extended Warranty, for an extra year after the Manufacturer's 1 year Warranty. Initially, the large screen for the price that it was, was rather ...
...a more expensive model of Advent laptop, cracks developed in the body of the unit, plus also between the unit and the screen - near the hinges. Noisy and heavy I found this laptop to be incredibly noisy. I thought this myself when I was using it, and as it is the first laptop I have owned, one could say, you don't have anything to compare it to. But I found that this laptop was too noisy, and also heavy, - in comparison to friendss who have laptops ... Read review

Why don't my laptop ever work?
Review of Advent 6413 by leeradford

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Poor tech support, poor parts, low quality

I've had my Advent laptop for about 3 years which I bought from PC World, in that time it has been repaired five times and each time has taken about five weeks to repair! The laptop its self is a generic laptop, built cheaply and then with an Advent badge stuck on it. However when I purchased the laptop it was top of the range and about £700 quid cheaper than other similar branded versions. Of course when I purchased it I was badgered to take the ...
...done within 2 working days' etc. It did cover accidental damage though and the chance of me dropping it or it getting stolen was quite high so I took it out. It is clear that things sometimes go wrong, or get damaged, but so far the case has cracked and needed to be replaced, the screen has needed to be replaced, the fan was replaced, the motherboard was replaced even though there was nothing wrong with it, the button that opens the case came off ... Advent 8485
Review of Advent 8485 by mikewhite

Advantages: Competitive price, good performance, Asus/Hi-grade backup
Disadvantages: Unusual keyboard layout

I've always bought Toshiba laptops in the past, but when my latest one started to "wear out" I thought I'd be brave, save a few £s and go for a less well known brand. After digging around on the web I found that this model is actually made by Asus and supported over here by Hi-grade. That certainly gave me a bit more confidence than what I'd heard about PC World. I walked in and walked out with my new baby within about 20 minutes. Set up was very ...
...hitch. The computer comes with the best presented driver CD I've seen. I did notice that the hard drive was rather noisy but the machine ran OK for a week. The disaster! The hard drive (a S.M.A.R.T. model Hitachi) reported "Imminent Drive Failure - back Up Now" at boot up! PC World gave me an instant replacement and its been fine since (a month). The computer is a joy to use, certainly well fast enough for the development work I do. The screen ... Read review
