Not a great traveller, but a good mate...
Review of Acer TravelMate 7520-402G16Mi - Turion 64 X2 TL-58 1.9 GHz - 17" TFT by
readie25
Advantages: Well-presented, feature-packed laptop
Disadvantages: A touch slow for modern gaming
The Acer Travelmate series come generally very well-equipped to be competent laptop computers for the modern age, and the 7520 is no exception. Using the same Turion 64x2 that is quite standard in its Travelmate range, the 7520 is quick to boot; the 2GB of RAM is quite sufficient for multimedia applications such as watching DVDs - well provided for by a very able DVD drive and a very nicely presented, clear screen. As well as this, the product is ... ...for long periods, with a great touchpad.
However, the screen is quite easily scratched and the battery life is really rather poor - typically you can expect approximately 80 mins on 'high performance', or longer on the more frugal but less useful 'balanced' and 'power saver' options.
A great value laptop, and a very good buy ...

Good performance, Pig awful looks!!
Review of Lenovo ThinkPad R61 7732 - Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
cindyhigham
Advantages: Fast and reliable
Disadvantages: Screen could be better, not the best design
...world of insurance Toshiba and Lenovo are spelt the same?). Needless to say the chances of me renewing my policy with them are somewhere between sweet FA and Nil.
However rant and rage over with here are my opinions and observations of the R61 thinkpad.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
-------------------------------
When I first opened the box, my first impression was "Oh my god!, it's come from the Lada car factory. The design has all the finesse of a 1980's ... ...name around, I had not linked it to the IBM brand. However as soon as you look the laptop, it is instantly recognisable as an IBM Thinkpad. Sadly though not in a good way, The keyboard and general layout do look very dated.
The only plus point here is that it does seem to be very well built and sturdy enough to take the odd few knocks and scrapes.
SPECIFICATIONS
--------------------------
Thankfully the performance of the laptop is far better ...

My Mate just doesn't Travel well...
Review of Acer TravelMate 5720G-302G16 - Core 2 Duo T7300 - 15.4" TFT by
readie25
Advantages: Well-rounded laptop with very good functionality, easy to use
Disadvantages: Not future-proof, but what is?!
When looking for a relatively cheap but well-designed laptop, acer's travelmate series were a particular interest. Suitably powerful for multimedia applications, and generally well-equipped, with an integrated webcam, microphone and a separate graphics card. This does call on the system memory, however, and typically running windows vista will result in the system using almost half its RAM just idling...
However, having purchased a similar travelmate, ... ...transported, the battery life in 'high performance' mode is short and the other power modes are less useful.
I have experienced issues from new with the battery connection, and the seller - Kikatek, were very unhelpful. As well as not having a phone line at all - communication must take place by email - they were very unwilling to accept that the model had any fault at all... The laptop is a solid buy, just not from Kikatek! ...

No Second Thoughts

Simplecash
Advantages: Speed, Capacity, Comfort
Disadvantages: Vista
I have been using this product for the past one year. The spead is great, light weight, compatible. Helps me a lot in my business. I would recommend this to any one. And service is available at its best and is available worldwide. I was recommended this by a friend of mine and after using it, have suggested to few other of my friends. They also purchased this product and are happy with the performance.
Recommend anybody who is in a lookout for the ...

acer aspir 5920
Review of Acer Aspire 5920 by
jefbray
Advantages: light, fast capable
Disadvantages: none
I have recently brought this model, and have found it to be fast reliable and capable. the mouse pad is a little sensative for my liking and sends you mad at times, so i would strongly reccomend using a wired usb mouse. Much more controlable. The laptop itself however is very good for the price. it is easy to use, looks good, and more than does the job. the screen is large enough to be clear, and tends not to reflect too much sun on those bright ...
