A lean machine
Review of Toshiba Portege R500-100 - Core 2 Duo U7600 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by

Advantages: Weight, battery, screen
Disadvantages: FIngerprint software
...power), and the keyboard. Toshiba has packaged the machine well, with a handy set of utilities, such as HDD protection (although this can be annoying when you're on a bumpy train - even if it is doing its job), the ConfigFree software (with its quick connect to different networks, wireless and Bluetooth connectivity), and power saving options. Switching between monitors and Digital TVs (if they are fitted with a PC connection) shows that the graphics ... ...although the Realtek audio mixer is basic. The touchpad drove me to distraction until I found how to turn it off while I typed - it's software is too clever by half and leads to the cursor jumping around the screen as you type. The big thing you need to be aware of is, paradoxically, using the fingerprint reader software for anything than basic passwords. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO USE IT TO PROTECT FILES. If there's a glitch that stops the TrueSuite software ...

Thin, portable yet still fairly powerful laptop
Review of Toshiba Tecra A2 - Pentium M 735 1.7 GHz - 15" TFT by
crazyforyou12
Advantages: Very good spec and good performance with LONG battery life
Disadvantages: Only a 15" screen, very bad audio speakers
...and OneNote, and all the Toshiba products for notebooks, such as Wireless Diagnoser etc. The CD writer is very good, it's 24X, which is fairly fast for a notebook, and it's CW-RW. I upgraded this to DVD-W, as it only came as a DVD-Rom when I bought it, and it's 4X. I haven't had any problems with the drive since I bought this. However, this does come with XP Pro, which is bloody good, working really well with Pentium M. There are a lot of extra Toshiba ... ...exactly how you want it. I upgraded the harddrive space to 60Gb from 40Gb, and I would recommend this if you play games, edit photos, and like to generally need a lot of space. The built in laptop speakers are EXTREMELY tinny, so if you listen to a lot of music I would recommend buying some USB speakers. I wish this had a few more USB ports, but you can always buy a external plug-in external USB ports. You can also buy a bluetooth dongle to solve ...

Macbook: The Only Choice
Review of Apple MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.1 GHz - 13.3" TFT by
chids
Advantages: Looks, Simplicity, Works out-of-the-box, battery life, power
Disadvantages: Case feels a little cheap, Screen attracts fingerprints
...Macbook was purchased direct from Apple and took just two days to arrive. And, as promised, it worked straight out of the box. I just pressed power filled out my user details and i was going. The setup hooked me onto my wireless internet and i was away.
The first thing that struck me was the size of the thing, it's only slightly thicker than an average sized hardback notepad and weighs just over 2 kg, in other words it's a perfect size. Before the ... ...is very clean and crisp. Apple really has gone above and beyond with this one, it's perfect. The 13,3 inch glossy screen is great for watching movies. Just a note for skeptical readers: the glossy screen rarely (if ever) reflects anything in the background. When it comes to using the Macbook in a brightly lit area or outside there is less reflection than there would be on a Matte display.
Battery life on the Macbook. Is better than almost all other ...

The Good and the Bads of the Toshiba Equium A60
Review of Toshiba Equium A60-155 - Celeron D 335 2.8 GHz - 15" TFT by
chrisattrill
Advantages: Cheap, Reliable, Run up to date games.
Disadvantages: Heavy, Slow, Battery
The Toshiba Equium A60, is a cheap, and reliable laptop. It can do the basic commands of oppening Microsoft Office to a harder command of running the most up to date games. The A60 is quite old now, and I was worried at first that it may not be able to run Flight Simulator X. In the end the game works fine. The spec is good aswell, if you have got alot of files then you may need to buy and external hard drvie for extra storage. Then there is the ... ...portable. Also if you have got lots of programs then the laptop may be slow and most of the time the laptop will not be able to run more then three or four major programs. Also the battery is not very good; infact it is rubbish. But as long you have got the charger in the laptop you should be ok and it should not be a problem. Over all its a good "student" laptop, and the price you pay is the price you get!
I paid £230 for this laptop, but i'm sure ...

A good budget laptop
Review of Dell Inspiron 1525 by
Rich444
Advantages: Looks nice, works well, some nice added touches
Disadvantages: A few build and technical issues
...know, an unusual thing with Dell is that they only sell laptops online, and all products can be fully customised to meet your specifications. For around £329 you can buy the base level specifications of an Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T1400(1.73Ghz), 2Gb RAM and a 120Gb hardrive. More than sufficient for an entry level laptop. However these specifications can be customised up to a 2Ghz processor, 4GB RAM and a massive 250Gb hardrive. This would ... ...add-ons include a built in 2MP webcam (£20 extra), a larger capacity battery and a Truelife (glossy finished) screen.
For the purpose of the review, my laptops specs are: 2.00Ghz Processor, 3Gb RAM and 120Gb Hardrive. I have the built in webcam, and the plain matte screen.
Physical Features
The Inspiron is a sophisticated looking laptop, despite being a little bit on the bulky side. Its dimensions are 14.05"x10.08"x1.0-1.48" (its wedged shaped) ...
