Best Laptop Ive Used
Review of IBM Thinkpad 700 Series by jamesleeds

Advantages: Small, Lots of features, Bulletproof
Disadvantages: Part Prices

I Bought a Thinkpad 770 for £400 afew months ago, and in my opinion, its the best laptop ive used. It comes with a capture card, Cd drive, USB connection. Its only a 266MHz but its done everything that i wanted it to. Ive only had one problem, which is still a problem, I need a new battery as the standard battery Will not charge, and the new battery will cost around £200, but its not bad when the battery has lasted 4 years. The screen has started ...
...it, and the light sometimes goes off behind the screen, but these are all quite easily solveable problems, just expensive. All in All i would recomend this laptop t a potential buyer, just if its secondhand, check the battery and screen. Try leaving it switched on for a few hours. ... Read review

IIBM Thinkpad R50e
Review of IBM Thinkpad R50e by tayla13

Advantages: Cheap, Durable
Disadvantages: Low spec, Ugly

...- Being made by IBM this laptop is generally robust and durable, and feels sturdy to touch. - It comes with the IBM rapid recovery software, this allows you to completely reformat the hard disk, without using a disk. - Performs well in most everyday tasks. CONS --> - The longer this laptop is out, the more it shows its age. Its system specifications are quite low in comparison to laptops you can buy today. - Overall, from a stylistic point of ...
...(Intel extreme 2) that performs poorly in games. In conclusion I believe that if this laptop could be picked up for a cheap price today, it would be a good all round laptop that would perform well at most everday tasks, eg. word processing and internet browsing. However, if you use newer, more taxing programs like image processing software or modern games, this is not the laptop for you. ... Read review

If they just get the HD right...
Review of IBM Thinkpad T42 by starmanx

Advantages: lite and good speed
Disadvantages: Hard disk know problem

Nice machine, the model i have it comes with Multiburner and I upgraded to1Gb ram. Good video card, it comes with lots of utility for configuration and drivers can be automatically downloaded from the web.And so far the good points...bad notes now..I had hard disk replaced twice in first 6 months of life.First hard disk start doing tick tick noises, then machines goes blue screen, then it hangs on boot...with no error on display and you can still ...
...flickers.I called support and they made me download a Drive fitness test that reported an error on disk.Had to take machine to a Service point to have it swapped under warranty .Two moinths later, the new hard disk failed again, and was replaced..now i work with my finger crossed and save every important doc on DVD. Speaking with the people of the Service center , it looks like it is a common problem happening to machines built in 2005.. ... Read review

The IBM ThinkPad 240 - A sub-£200 gem?
Review of ThinkPad 240 C 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by mattyprice4004

Advantages: Small size, Lights, Looks smart!
Disadvantages: Some say it looks bland, Small size limits functionality

...is the story with the ThinkPad 240 - I remember when these were £1,699 brand new. Luckily I never bought one new, but I did receive one second hand a few months ago. This is probably my first review where I have a few serious issues with a product, as the 240 did leave a lot to be desired. But let's start with what's good. The first thing that will attract a lot of potential buyers to this laptop is it's diminutive size. It truly is amazing how ...
...With any of these, the ThinkPad 240 really starts to drag, even with 192MB of RAM installed. The best way to make XP or 2000 run well is to have a fast hard disk and lots of RAM, coupled with a fast CPU. The 240 cannot give any of these, as it seemed to have problems with a fast spin 80GB Toshiba disk I installed. Overall, I'd reccommend the 240 due to it's cheap price tag and it's small size, but if it's speed and functionality you're after, look ... Read review

IBM Thinkpad 240X
Review of ThinkPad 240X 2609 - PIII 500 MHz - 10.4" TFT by Fraggy

Advantages: Small size, ease of use, light weight
Disadvantages: Startup time

When I first got the notebook I could not believe the sheer size of it. It is only 26cm wide, 20cm in diameter and 2.7cm in height and also it only weighs 1.5kg. The dimensions and the size makes this notebook a great tool for people on the constant move that need to have a portable computer with them at all times. The notebook comes with a Pentium III Mobile Processor which runs at 500MHz and also it is equipped with no less than 192Mb of RAM and ...
...enough for the laptop to run smoothly, it is designed for Windows 98 and 2000 Professional but I am running Windows XP Professional SP1 with no problems. From using the notebook myself I have come to see that having such a small notebook has its advantages. You can set it up anywhere and also if you have a full battery it will last you a good few hours. And if you want to connect to the net you can use the PCMCIA port to add a wireless LAN card ...
