Excellent compromise between portability and size
Review of Sony VAIO C2Z/B - Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66 GHz - 13.3" TFT by porsche917

Advantages: Strong frame, full size keyboard, excellent screen, not too heavy.
Disadvantages: Windows Vista, runs hot.

I spent a long time looking for a truly portable laptop that would still have a large enough keyboard for heavy duty use, and a large enough screen for watching DVDs, which none of the ultra-portables seemed to offer. Final shortlist was this Vaio and the Apple MacBook. Very pleased I chose the Vaio. Extremely good looking, light enough, full size keyboard, and a great screen. Real upside is a very strong case. Mine was squashed in a bag, and ...
...bent it back and it functions perfectly. Downsides are really to do with Vista, you need to download a patch to ensure the computer will come out of hibernation when you open the screen, and when coming out of hibernation it seems to lose the sound drivers. Also, if you are using it in bed then you need to rest it on something, it gets very hot otherwise! ... Read review

Review of ASUS Eee PC 2G Surf - Celeron M - 7" by techno_man_37

Advantages: portability
Disadvantages: linux

asus EEE PC This review is of the relatively new asus EEE pc. Its been quite fun using and reviewing this one as its not like your usual laptops, and in many ways its a lot worse however at the end of testing it iv got to say I really like the asus EEE pc and however rubbish it might be I think I will end up buying one if some of the features just improve a little or if the higher spec editions become cheaper. I'm reviewing the cheapest version ...
...one of these. The asus eee pc is really small and versatile, its just 225 by 35 by 165mm which really isn't big at all. Unlike many other pc tablets of this size this one does look exactly like a laptop which is something I really like about it. It can come in a whole range of different colours however the only one I have used is the white one and is probably the one id get if I was going to buy one. A downside from some peoples point of view ... Read review

Asus Eee PC: Size does matter
Review of ASUS Eee PC 4G - Celeron M 353 900 MHz - 7" TFT by lizzielocky

Advantages: Price, easy to use, very portable, good features
Disadvantages: Size, over-heating battery.

...expert on broadband, email and web surfing. If we'd bought her a Windows PC I doubt any of this would have been possible. So whatever my doubts as an experienced computer user, this Asus has opened up a vast world to my mother for which we are both extremely grateful! ... Read review

cheap laptop
Review of Acer Extensa 4220-101G08Mi - C 540 1.86 GHz - 14.1" TFT by techno_man_37

Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: could be quicker

...This laptop is the Acer Extensa 4220-101G08Mi. The extensa is a new model from acer and although they have been working on it for over a year now it wasn’t until a few months ago that these laptops went on sale. I still don’t think that it’s a brand of acer laptops that most people will be familiar with yet however I think it will grow and they will get better and more and more people will buy them just like what happened with the ...
...from the Acer aspire however the aspires were made mainly to keep at home and for a laptop to use around the house. These new extensa models though are not only made or that but also incorporate the design specification of the older travel mate models so that they are also quite portable so really it gives you the opportunity to use your laptop for whatever you want to use it for. This one looks a bit different from previous acer laptops and also ... Read review

Review of Lenovo ThinkPad R61 7732 - Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8 GHz - 14.1" TFT by cindyhigham

Advantages: Fast and reliable
Disadvantages: Screen could be better, not the best design

...world of insurance Toshiba and Lenovo are spelt the same?). Needless to say the chances of me renewing my policy with them are somewhere between sweet FA and Nil. However rant and rage over with here are my opinions and observations of the R61 thinkpad. FIRST IMPRESSIONS ------------------------------- When I first opened the box, my first impression was "Oh my god!, it's come from the Lada car factory. The design has all the finesse of a 1980's ...
...name around, I had not linked it to the IBM brand. However as soon as you look the laptop, it is instantly recognisable as an IBM Thinkpad. Sadly though not in a good way, The keyboard and general layout do look very dated. The only plus point here is that it does seem to be very well built and sturdy enough to take the odd few knocks and scrapes. SPECIFICATIONS -------------------------- Thankfully the performance of the laptop is far better ... Read review
