Cracking ultra-portable laptop for under a grand
Review of Samsung Q45 LXD T7100 - Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8 GHz - 12.1" TFT by sadoldbag

Advantages: Fast, great spec, looks good, light
Disadvantages: None so far (only had it a week though)

...It is the second Samsung I've had and I love the layout of the keyboard etc - so much better than Dell, which are a bit functional (though good value for money). It's quite small which makes it light and easy to port about, and the screen is big enough, though obviously if you want a bigger screen there are loads out there larger. I expect the smallish screen improves the battery life. The actutal viewing on the screen is good though - it is one ... Read review

Why the Portege A200 is almost the best. Almost.
Review of Toshiba Satellite A200 by Mandrake666

Advantages: Fast, upgradeable, extremely portable and super stylish
Disadvantages: Heatsink blocks up with dust easity, leading to overheating

...software STRENGTHS The Toshiba Portege A200 is one of the lightest, slimmest laptops you'll come across, but apart from a slightly poor graphics card it lacks nothing in features and is highly upgradeable. The run time is over 2.5 Hours on a fully charged battery and the 12.1" screen is 1024x768 resolution so although it takes some getting used to its small size there is room for just as much information on it as a typical 15" screen and its crystal ...
...supplied with Toshibas own suite of utilities which are superb and consume very little memory. Highlights include profiles to slow down your processor and dim the screen to extend battery life as it runs down, Quiet CD to slow your DVD drive down when watching DVD's and prevent unnecessary whirring and useful wireless network analyzers and trouble-shooters. In terms of ports you get built in fire wire - well implemented too I might add unlike some ... Read review

VIAO for the home??
Review of Sony VAIO SZ71WN/C - Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5 GHz - 13.3" TFT by piiindy

Advantages: Small, lightweight and packed with great gizmo's
Disadvantages: may be over budget

Sony Vaio's are well known for being the business types laptop, being expensive and packed with business type programmes and softwares, and especially hardware allowing people to comunicate and connect with the easiest of use. For example connecting to the internet or connecting a USB couldn't be easier on a laptop than it is on a Viao. But now with better graphics cards and a faster proccesor the Viao is more family freindly giving better movie ...
...this Viao is for around £1300 a good price for any laptop of this quality, and to be honest Sony have done well in this market and really with the support they offer and the quality of this product you really are in safe hands, and can't go too wrong. ... Read review

Decent all rounder, ideal for Students
Review of Toshiba Tecra A9 by dmilligan935

Advantages: Very Durable
Disadvantages: Processor a little small

A laptop that is hugely durable, i have taken it on many business trips, and it has survived in my luggage bags with merely a few scrapes on the outer casing, would definitely recommend this to a user that travels alot. I find that the battery lasts for around 1 hour and 45 mins but don't keep it in the charger all the time because i have noticed that it does shorten the battery life. The laptop is very user friendly, with easy access for any maintenance ...
...quite a good pickup range. I find that this laptop is best used for word processing etc and it weaknesses is dealing with multimedia applications such as photoshop, dream weaver etc, the processor just cant seem to handle programs like these., other than that it is a good all round laptop and ideal price for students. ... Good performance, Pig awful looks!!
Review of Lenovo ThinkPad R61 7732 - Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8 GHz - 14.1" TFT by cindyhigham

Advantages: Fast and reliable
Disadvantages: Screen could be better, not the best design

...world of insurance Toshiba and Lenovo are spelt the same?). Needless to say the chances of me renewing my policy with them are somewhere between sweet FA and Nil. However rant and rage over with here are my opinions and observations of the R61 thinkpad. FIRST IMPRESSIONS ------------------------------- When I first opened the box, my first impression was "Oh my god!, it's come from the Lada car factory. The design has all the finesse of a 1980's ...
...name around, I had not linked it to the IBM brand. However as soon as you look the laptop, it is instantly recognisable as an IBM Thinkpad. Sadly though not in a good way, The keyboard and general layout do look very dated. The only plus point here is that it does seem to be very well built and sturdy enough to take the odd few knocks and scrapes. SPECIFICATIONS -------------------------- Thankfully the performance of the laptop is far better ... Read review
