Portege 3110CT and Microsoft XP
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by Portege3110CT

Advantages: Small, Light and runs Windows XP
Disadvantages: Under powered and runs hot

The Notebook is SMALL and LIGHT that's it main features. 25.7cm x 21.8cm and only 1.4kg. The processor runs at 300Mhz and the device will probably come with a 6GB HD. The Laptop runs hot and the fan never really stops. The standard package comes with 64MB of memory and can be upgraded to 192MB. I have a 128MB upgrade chip installed, bringing it up to 192MB. Treat yourself and upgrade your memory. The original OS was WIN98. I upgrade my Protégé ...
...then make sure you have the latest drivers for the external CD-ROM and remove the extra memory before the upgrade. As I remember, at some point it failed because it couldn't address the extra memory. With XP loaded reinstall the extra memory and the system will discover it. The system can be upgraded using the floppy disk drive if you don't have a CD-ROM. I've had my 3110CT for seven years. After five years the original hard drive failed which ... Read review

Review of Sony VAIO N505X - C 333 MHz - 10.4" TFT by kenzo123

Advantages: Ultra-portable, Magnesium alloy casing, Runs XP no problem!, cost just £90!
Disadvantages: Battery life is about 1 hour, Low spec by today's standards

...when I came across a Sony Vaio N505X Ultra-Portable notebook going cheap - I paid just £90 for mine which was in pristine condition and included the official Vaio external CD-Rom drive, external floppy drive, port replicator, power supply, upgraded to 128MB of ram and upgraded 30GB hard drive. I already have a perfectly adequate desktop computer but thought it would be nice to make more use of my wireless router. I personally think that the majority ...

Good product
Review of Apple iBook PPC G3 600 MHz - 12.1" TFT by Patty8

Advantages: as always processor
Disadvantages: small screen for graphics

The ibook is a great product but for someone into graphics I believe I want just a bit more] as far as screen size. I have the 12.1" screen size model. As always the ibook processor is untouched by any pc and the graphics card is great for a laptop. I run all the adobe programs and some of the microsoft office programs and macromedia programs, I have had no complaints. As for the details here you go. Built in firewire, ethernet, modem, USB VGA port ...
...alot), built in cd burner and dvd burner, great for long trips. Currently I am running OSX 10.2 and it runs very smooth, I just ordered panther and plan to upgrade as soon as it comes in. Overall I love my ibook and the good definitely out weighs the bad. ... Read review

Review of HP OmniBook 900 - PIII 500 MHz - 13.3" TFT by Inferno

Advantages: probably quite cheap Now
Disadvantages: Mostly everything

...and it doesn't feel very nice. The look of the laptop isn't at all impressive and I haven't grown to like it at all. So if you are looking into buying a laptop then I strongly recommend that you stay away from HP laptops like their the plague. ... Read review

Review of Sony VAIO F190 - PII 366 MHz - 14.1" TFT by boilot

Advantages: Great for business and personal use
Disadvantages: Battery life

...a colleague recently bought two Sony Vaios and we are both very satisfied with them. There were no problems running the computer out of the box, no problems installing any of the software we wanted; we even made a new partition and got Redhat running smoothly out-of-the box also. The physical computer is solid, as i've dropped mine a few times, bent some sockets but everything still works fine. I had a problem with the battery - i happen not to use ...
...they many connectivity options that Sony build into product - its more of a buy-in factor if you have other sony (or non-sony) products that will easily connect if you get Vaio. I think in terms of value for money you can get it with a Vaio, ifyou count the sexy styling and all the bells, whistles and connectors as value also. In pure objective terms, as in core features (cpu, memory, screen size etc.), there are definately more competitive notebooks ... Read review
