Portege 3110CT and Microsoft XP
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by Portege3110CT

Advantages: Small, Light and runs Windows XP
Disadvantages: Under powered and runs hot

The Notebook is SMALL and LIGHT that's it main features. 25.7cm x 21.8cm and only 1.4kg. The processor runs at 300Mhz and the device will probably come with a 6GB HD. The Laptop runs hot and the fan never really stops. The standard package comes with 64MB of memory and can be upgraded to 192MB. I have a 128MB upgrade chip installed, bringing it up to 192MB. Treat yourself and upgrade your memory. The original OS was WIN98. I upgrade my Protégé ...
...then make sure you have the latest drivers for the external CD-ROM and remove the extra memory before the upgrade. As I remember, at some point it failed because it couldn't address the extra memory. With XP loaded reinstall the extra memory and the system will discover it. The system can be upgraded using the floppy disk drive if you don't have a CD-ROM. I've had my 3110CT for seven years. After five years the original hard drive failed which ... Read review

A Reliable Notebook
Review of Toshiba Satellite 1620CDS - K6-2 475 MHz - 12.1" DSTN by GazmanJoyce

Advantages: Good looking, hardy, reliable, good processor.
Disadvantages: Can freeze and lock out the user. Low spec memory.

This notebook seemed to be excellently priced at £899 in Dixons but when it was further reduced to £799 then it was a bargain not to be missed. The internal V90 modem is great, I have had no problems with it and the built in pointing device is fine. The screen has presented no problems and gives a clear if not to large display. When hot the system does however sometimes freeze and has on one occasin crashes froze on resulting in me rebooting. A ... Read review

Its good!
Review of Toshiba Satellite 2710XDVD by Redbullgivesyouwings

Advantages: Powerful, stylish
Disadvantages: Does not come with very much software

The Toshiba Satellite 2710XDVD is truely an excellent machine. It comes with a Intel Pentium 111 processor with 500 MHz. The screen is excellent, very clear and large at 14.1 inches. It has a four speed intergrated DVD rom drive and comes with a free DVD player. The films look very clear on the screen. It comes with a V.90 modem which I have no problems with. It has special keys for internet access and the DVD player. It comes with some free software ... Read review

Absolute Bargain Buy!
Review of Toshiba Satellite 4100XCDT - PII 400 MHz - 14.1" TFT by Cheesefather

Advantages: Cheap, reliable, durable, fast enough, large display
Disadvantages: Fairly heavy (in comparison to more modern laptops)

I picked up a Toshiba 4100XCDT from Insight for £1000 (+VAT), and am very happy with the result - I wanted a cheap, durable, reliable laptop with in-built modem and CR-ROM. The main specs of the machine are as follows: Pentium II 400, 64 MB RAM, 6 GB Hard Disk Drive, 14.1" screen, 24X CD-ROM, V.90/56K Modem, Windows NT (SP4). These are more than enough for most uses of a laptop, even giving presentations (2.5 MB On-board graphics memory, and the ...
...(which meant that the funky Toshiba tools and power management suites wouldn't work anymore, but you can download new ones off the web), as I wanted a super-stable operating system (well, stable-ish...), and it automatically installed the drivers for absolutely everything. The only thing this laptop is lacking really is a Network card (depending on what you need it for), but you can pick up a 10T/100T MBps PCMCIA card for about £30 (it comes with ... Read review

Reliable and Competent Laptop
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro 4280 - PIII 500 MHz - 13.3" TFT by bobfibber

Advantages: Good layout, reasonable size, reliable
Disadvantages: nipple mouse, noisy CD Drive & processor fan

I use the Toshiba laptop as an addition to my HP desktop machine at work. I find that the Toshiba has all of the features that I need and offers very reliable components. The screen display is clear and big enough to handle a resolution of 1024x768 comfortably. The standby feature is excellent which means not having to boot up from scratch, saving plenty of time. For playing games, it copes adequetly with the latest releases but of course and external ... Read review
