Lady Oracle
Review of Lady Oracle - Margaret Atwood by chak93

Advantages: Easy to read
Disadvantages: Couldn't put it down!

I managed to consume this book in less than 24 hours by completely forgetting my own life and becoming so absorbed in the heroine's. This book confronts so many issues from body weight to bullying and how we long to escape from our present life to find the ever elusive "happy ever after". I found it easy to read, humorous yet sad. There was just enough left to the imagination to leave questions for the reader that may or may not be answered! It ... Read review

Past Mortem
Review of Past Mortem - Ben Elton by CPTDANIELS

Advantages: Excellent story well written
Disadvantages: Bit gruesome in parts

Background: When I first saw this book in the crime section of my local book seller I was confused. Had the book simply been misfiled as surely it should be under humour? But having read the front and back covers description I was wrong. So I was interested to see what style Elton employed in writing a thriller. About the Author: Ben Elton was born in 1959 and is a multi-talented man. Who seems to succeed in all he tries. His writing includes ...
...Blue Line. He is also a celebrated stand up comedian. He has so far published 12 novels and two plays. This book I am reviewing was written in 2004. Synopsis of the novel: A gruesome murder is discovered by the Police. That of Adam Bishop a man hated by most but brutally and painstakingly tortured. A list of people who would like to see this bully dead is endless. The method employed by the killer is very precise and Inspector Newson and his side ... Read review

Anaemic Asian
Review of Half a Life - V.S. Naipaul by MALU

Advantages: it's short
Disadvantages: it's boring

...assumption that he's lived half his life now, if that were all, it would be a bit cheap, though. 'Half A Life' is a novel of incompleteness, Willie is never 'whole' during the time we know him. His parents are a mix of caste and personality as far from each other as possible, he belongs to neither side. Now the adolescent could feel the urge to find out who he is, but he has no urge, no objectives, no ambitions, he just drifts along. When he's moved ...
...himself. Mozambique is a half-and half world, a colony struggling for independence, the people Willie meets are half-and-half, too, not fully Portuguese, not fully African, or immigrants from various parts of the world. Willie doesn't integrate into this society, he remains an outsider. After eighteen years he feels that he has to leave and finally to begin to live his own life. What has caused this insight remains in the dark and also what Willie's ... Read review

Edward's only human, Bella!
Review of Twilight - Stephenie Meyer by sparkle1993

Advantages: funny, romantic, sweet
Disadvantages: repetitive

...seen my friends reading the Twilight series and to be honest, i never taken much interest in them. This ended when everybody was talking about how amazing they were, so i figured i might as well read them! To tell the truth, they are addictive. If your girl, then you most probably will fall in love with Edward Cullen - yes, i know he's fiction but trust me, you will! The main plot is quite exciting but everything in between can get a bit boring. ...
...17 year old girl who has moved to the wet, grey town of Forks. She meets a peculiar boy called Edward and is instantly drawn to him. It turns out he's a.........I won't tell you! (Don't want to ruin the story) The boko can get pretty repetive and annoying. Bella mostly talks about her day and it usually goes something like this " I got home, made dinner, thought about Edward..he's beautiful, argued with dad, made up with dad...isn't Edward beautiful, ... A super sexy, sassy Platinum read!
Review of Platinum - Jo Rees by mummy2harry

Advantages: Great characters, outrageous story, great fun!
Disadvantages: None

...I've rated on there, and Platinum was one of these books. Again, I managed to get a copy from my library and I've finally finished the book so here is my review of it, at last! Platinum focuses on the lives of 3 women all scorned by one man and how their lives were ruined by the evil Yuri Khordinsky. Frankie is a computer-whizz, but due to something that happened to her at home in South Africa, she's now a stewardess on board Pushkin, a yacht owned ...
...who's about to open a Platinum mine in Russia. But when Emma is shocked to her core, will she get to the bottom of what really happened? The three women are unlikely allies, but they decide together, they have to bring down Yuri Khordinsky and make him pay for the tragedies he has caused. Being a story that has 3 main characters, the author Jo Rees has written the book in the third person and has chosen to dedicate a chapter at a time to each character, ... Read review
