The best - bugs can be worked around
Review of ASUS Striker Extreme Republic of Gamers Series - motherboard - ATX - nForce 680i SLI by
ClockworkUniverse42
Advantages: features and accessories rich; great overclocking potential; fastest mobo out there
Disadvantages: some bugs, but nothing that can't be dealt with if you're prepared
...However, after looking at the Asus forums, I was confidant that I could overcome any problems that I encountered.
When I set up my new system, I was immediatly faced with the notorious 'CPU INIT' error when I attempted to power up the PC. However, as I had read the forums and knew about the problem, I could easily deal with it - as opposed to sending for a replacement straight away, which I've heard many people have done. I soon discovered the problem ... ...as I have said, the Asus forums, I had already prepared a USB stick with the latest stable bios version on it, so that the first thing I did after powering up the Striker was to go into the bios and update it, using Asus's brillliant EZFlash utility. After that was done I simply installed the OS and it was brilliant from then on.
As I said, there is a reason I tolerated these teething troubles in such an expensive and high-end part. This is because ...

MSI do it again.
Review of MSI K9N SLI Platinum - motherboard - ATX - nForce 570 by
demonbarak
Advantages: Well planned layout, good spec
Disadvantages: none really
...mainboard out (an aging p2 MSI variant) I needed something urgently to replace it - being mid program.
So, off I went to my usual websites, and spotted this. It seemed to have reasonable reviews, so i purchased one not thinking it'd be hugely special, just reliable and simple.
Boy, was I suprised!
First off, its well laid out - everything is accessable, labelled and well explained in the manual. Second of all, its thoughtfully spec'd. rather than ... ...a bank of SATA connectors, and only one IDE for a floppy drive (should you install one!).
Furthermore, the onboard chipset is cooled quietly, wires don't need a huge stretch to fit into the appropriate port, and the colour coding is clear, rather than all the same boring beige.
In use, the board is, quite frankly, special.
Its quiet, reliable and because of its thoughtful layout not prone to overheating.
Without going into technical detail thats ...

ASUS A8N-E BEST MOTHERBOARD I EVER USED
Review of ASUS A8N-E - motherboard - ATX - nForce4 Ultra by
Hi-Spec-Tek
Advantages: EVERY ADVANTAGE, SPEED, RELIABILITY, PERFORMANCE. A GREAT ALROUNDER.
Disadvantages: I COULD FIND NONE
...I purchased TWO of these ASUS A8N-E motherboards and built up two identical systems. One of these I had been using for up to 16 hours per day and that was over two years of many hours of long and hard usage. I have nothing but praise for this model, the speed and reliability has been exemplary all this time. I run both of my PC's at 3% over-clock all the time but have tried 5% too, this I found made the PC unstable and sometimes it would reboot itself ... ...of my PC's using the ASUS A8N-E running for up to 16 hours per day over more than 2 years deserved a break! Well I cannot be certain that it was the motherboard that gave up but I feel there was an intrusion of some small metallic item, I will never know! I have a second unit of course, the one I am using now, I had changed all the pluggable components such as Graphics card, RAM, CPU, and everything possible but although the board stayed alive, (I ...
