Four hours + Coffee = Working Wireless Network
Review of D-Link Air DWL 610 by biggreenbox

Advantages: Cheap and functional
Disadvantages: Seemed fiddly to setup

I wanted an easy way to connect to the internet from any room in my house without the aid of putting new cables in freshly decorated rooms, so based on price alone, I went for the DLink DWL 610 which could connect to my workstation (with a DLink DWL 510, basically the PCI version of the 610). Following the manual's instructions to the letter, I installed the drivers on my XP-based IBM Thinkpad laptop, slapped the card into the PCMCIA slot, and configured ...
...mistake - I followed the manual. Amazingly, after following the instructions for both cards, I couldn't get the laptop to connect to my workstation, even after fiddling with the settings, checking them and starting again several times. Not the best start really. However, after setting the IP addresses to the 192.168.0.* range, magically my connection appeared from nowhere! It took me four hours (and several cups of coffee up to 1am) before I even ... Read review

The software provided gives you an easy to use network monitor which gives you the option to connect to what network you wish, save the network as a profile, and show the best link connection/speed. It has support for USB 2.0 and also USB 1.1 so it will work great on older computers. It is compatible with Windows 98SE, 2000, ME, XP, ... Read review

Advantages: NONE!
Disadvantages: EVERYTHING! PC crashes, won't connect, poor range, crap software, crap product!

Bought a NETGEAR Wireless-G Modem Router (DG834G), set-up was easy (once I remembered to disable my previous modem in Device Manager). Several knowledgable people, dozens of PC crashes, dozens of 'System Restores, ... Read review

Finds a signal anywhere...
Review of Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO USB Adapter Network adapter by dc6118

Advantages: Very good range, useful extension, stylish
Disadvantages: Heats up quite a bit

I bought this last year to access the new wireless router in the upstairs hall of my block of flats, and although the signal was very weak, the adapter generally managed to find a signal and function normally, whereas a friends laptop was incapable of doing so from the same position. This was about 10 metres from the router, down a floor and through several walls so I am quite impressed. I currently use it in my home, again a floor away, this time ... Read review
