Good reliable printer
Review of Canon BJC S600 by
tcumming
Advantages: Reliable, fast, good quality printout, drivers
Disadvantages: Long cleaning routine, small cartridges
...available for download on the Canon website.
The print quality is excellent, even on standard copy paper. I have never bought any expensive glossy inkjet paper for this printer, as it has never seemed necessary. The highest resolution it can do is 2400 x 1200 dots per inch. Text is always very clear and legible even in very small text sizes, and graphics are always very clear and sharp looking.
This printer is also very fast. I timed a speed of ... ...quality settings, when printing a full page of text using 10-point Arial font. A full page photo takes around a minute. Unfortunately, these good speeds are sometimes spoiled by the printer's head cleaning routine, which seems to cut in by itself quite frequently, whenever it thinks it needs to, and can take anything from about 15 seconds to almost a minute to complete, during which any printing that is going on will be paused and a small quantity ...

Decent cheap printer
Review of Canon i 320 by
random76
Advantages: Cheap, good quality
Disadvantages: Quite noisy
I spent a fair amount of time researching printers before I bought this one just over a year ago and I am very satisfied with it.
Mostly I use it for text only but I have printed out a short book of pictures with it (as a present) and it was good quality. I’m sure there are better printers, but they are far more expensive. The i320 is a good quality cheap printer. The ink cartridges are fairly cheap too, which is a bonus. I have been using Canon-compatible ... ...yet) without any trouble. It’s not a particularly quiet printer, but neither is it the noisiest I’ve heard. If it’s in your bedroom I wouldn’t leave it printing while you’re in bed, but apart from that it’s not too loud. My only real complaint is that it doesn't come with any kind of tray to catch the printed pages. Apart from that I'd recommend it without hesitation. ...

Magicolor 5550
Review of Konica Minolta Magicolor 5550 by
bomberone
Advantages: Fast, excellent print quality
Disadvantages: Too many limitations
The 5550 has excellent print quality and its quick. It should be, because it is sold as a high duty-cycle commercial machine suitable for networking etc. But it cannot handle glossy or thick stock in the lower paper trays, plus they have no availability for custom sizes in them either. So, you can have up to 3, 500 sheet paper trays, but you can only load them with plain A4 stock. The duplexer suffers the in the same way. The practical result of ... ...tray that holds only a maximum of 100 sheets. Then, if you want your beautiful photo-quality glossy brochure printed on both sides, you have to return to the printer, turn the paper over and start again. All in all a potentially great machine that suffers from poor design and lack of flexibility. Sadder still, this is a problem that appears to be suffered by the whole range ...

Advantages: Hewlett Packard reliability
Disadvantages: Gets noisy when its old, but this can be sorted !!
...be fixed easily.
The HP laserjet 4250TN is retailing for around £900.00 at the moment and IV seen them as low as £600.00.
Remember if you're buying second hand, or a reconditioned unit, make sure you get a configuration and consumables status page printed off the machine. These will tell you the amount of pages the unit has printed, error messages, life expectancy of the consumable parts and the level of Toner remaining.
