The HP Laserjet 5000 boasts it's capability to print 16ppm while maintaining a resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi. I paid £700 for mine second hand and have never ever looked back for the 3 years i've had it. I use the printer alot and although it is suggested to have the printer adjusted after every 10,000 prints I have never had a problem. I have had my HP Laserjet 1600 for a couple of months now and at first I wasn't to pleased with the colour quality, but after it got broken in it started getting better. I use it quite a bit, sometimes printing 500 sheets a day, so it seems to stand up to the work load that I put it through.
