Oh Brother, where art thou labels!
Review of Brother P-Touch 2100VP by
andycharger
Advantages: Lots of extra functions, nice carry case
Disadvantages: mains operated, expensive
...Dymo and opted for the Brother P-Touch 2100VP.
Firstly, the Brother label printer comes in a handy carry case. Great for carting it around the office. Inside the rigid grey plastic case is the printer itself, its power supply and spare labelling reams.
Possibly its only shortcoming is the Dymo was quicker and easier to use as it was battery powered and therefore did not require plugging in for a quick one off label.
One massive advantage with ... ...printer i have seen. Definitely worth a purchase if looking for one.
Manufacturer support is also very good and the brother website has plenty of info regarding user manuals and instructions when configuring the machine. The included manual is more than enough to get you up and running initially though. ...

Could be just a little better
Review of Brother P-Touch 2420PC by
IntraSpark
Advantages: Easy to use, create professional looking labels
Disadvantages: Limited design flexibility, poor quality graphics reproduction
The P-touch 2420 seemed to offer the best combination of functionality and cost in a PC-enabled label printer, although this op does not provide a comparative analysis of other models on the market, as the 2420 is the only one I've tried...
THE BASICS
It should be clarified that this is a THERMAL MONOCHROME printer - don't be misled by colourful marketing blurb promising 'colourful labels'. The only possibility of introducing colour is by changing ... ...is a range of tape options (all supplied separately by the manufacturer), which allow the printing of black graphics and text on white, red, yellow, green and transparent coloured backgrounds. The tape, as I refer to it, is a cartridge of self-adhesive PVC (slightly thicker and tougher than sellotape) specially designed to provide the medium for printing onto. Cartridges slot in and out of the machine much like a toner cartridge on laser jet. The ...

Magicolor 5550
Review of Konica Minolta Magicolor 5550 by
bomberone
Advantages: Fast, excellent print quality
Disadvantages: Too many limitations
The 5550 has excellent print quality and its quick. It should be, because it is sold as a high duty-cycle commercial machine suitable for networking etc. But it cannot handle glossy or thick stock in the lower paper trays, plus they have no availability for custom sizes in them either. So, you can have up to 3, 500 sheet paper trays, but you can only load them with plain A4 stock. The duplexer suffers the in the same way. The practical result of ... ...tray that holds only a maximum of 100 sheets. Then, if you want your beautiful photo-quality glossy brochure printed on both sides, you have to return to the printer, turn the paper over and start again. All in all a potentially great machine that suffers from poor design and lack of flexibility. Sadder still, this is a problem that appears to be suffered by the whole range ...

Advantages: Hewlett Packard reliability
Disadvantages: Gets noisy when its old, but this can be sorted !!
...be fixed easily.
The HP laserjet 4250TN is retailing for around £900.00 at the moment and IV seen them as low as £600.00.
Remember if you're buying second hand, or a reconditioned unit, make sure you get a configuration and consumables status page printed off the machine. These will tell you the amount of pages the unit has printed, error messages, life expectancy of the consumable parts and the level of Toner remaining.
