...scanners suck as well. canon sucks this printer came with a mac g4, and it gives every excuse in the book NOT to work. give it paper, it says "no paper" remove the paper there's a paper jam. amazing, how many excuses this piece of trash gives not to work. Great printer... honestly, a must-buy
Review of Canon i 455 by EVIT

Advantages: compact design, price of the cartridges, quality and more
Disadvantages: it broke down after years of usage but, which appliance doesn't?

...quite fast, fully compatible with canon cameras for direct printing, very good quality in photo printing. Easy to set up and not invasive software (like many Epsons). This printer served me for several years, when it broke down after not having been used it for months, it broke my heart. I loved this printer but the cost of repairing was more than the price of a brand new multifunction printer (which I bought in the end), I couldn't find this model ...
...the compact design of this Canon printer which took soo few space on my desk. All newer printers seems to priviledge an office-like wasting space design. It's a shame that Canon doesn't sell this model so much anymore. I couldn't vote it EXCELLENT because afterall it broke down but a "GOOD" is needed for this product. ... Read review

HP 7260
Review of HP PhotoSmart 7260 by makro74

Advantages: Excellent quick printing, photos just add icing on the cake
Disadvantages: Paper jams for drafts

...relatively quick speed (depending on settings). But beware of using draft prints as this for some reason causes the printer to jam or crumple through the process. Ink catridges suprisingly outlast any other inkjet I have owned. HP 56, 57, 58 are used in this machine. ... Read review

Great budget printer.
Review of Canon PIXMA IP1800 by pdmg

Advantages: Excellent text
Disadvantages: No letter tray!

...on my previous experience of Canon printers - I opted for a Pixima with FINE technology. I already have a very good photo printer in the shape of the Epson R800, and an Epson 830U which I use for rough drafts as it is on it's last legs. Fact is, I needed a printer to print decent quality letters and the odd mixed text and image sheet. I previously used an old Canon S520 but it finally gave up the ghost, and I have to say the i1800 - at about a quarter ...
...capable machine. It prints in various modes (high, standard, draft and custom) and in high quality mode, the text is as good as any printer I've seen. It's not fast though, so if you print a lot of text you may want to look at a laser. Printing tecxt over colour (a sample web page) was not so hot, but I don't really care! Photo printing is acceptable, though I didn't buy it for that purpose and only printed one quick pic to get an idea. I imagine ... Read review

OK for under £40
Review of Lexmark Z 645 by curious_k

Advantages: cheap, good for black ink, easy to buy cartridges, "low ink" warning
Disadvantages: annoying software, not so good for colour printing or high quality stuff

...this option from within the Lexmark options screen (via Control Panel), unless you like to hear "Printing started!" in chirpy American every time you press print. Usefully, it'll monitor ink levels and warn you when they get low, with a link to the supplier's website. I get good results generally with black ink, variable with colour (sometimes either the blue or red ink seems to 'cut out'). Occasionally pulls in the paper at a wonky angle, say 1 ... Read review
