No warranty - beware !
Review of Acer PD 113p by
Gord0
Advantages: cheap..if it had a warranty, portable
Disadvantages: Warranty not honoured, bulbs blow in rapid succession
...few DAYS later) the third Acer tried to extrort ANOTHER $230 out of me.
I gave up and got a Panasonic PT-AX100U with 5 years warranty for $3000 which is BRILLIANT. Too bad Acer - you've had enough of my cash. Their solution to my problems ? I could pay a 2nd amount of $234.00 for a third bulb or go to the ACCC. Nice work...no thanks.
The unit's performance whilst working was quite good but it's unmerchantable nature makes it a beartrap waiting ... ...but I will never buy acer ANYTHING again for thier woeful customer service alone.
Buying a good value for money portable data projector is one thing but if the warranty is worth NOTHING
take a few hundred more off the price !!
You have been warned !

Project the world in a whole new light.
Review of Acer X1160 by
multidonna
Advantages: Cheap, lots of features, lightweight and compact, energy efficient
Disadvantages: It will do everything except make you a cup of tea.
...design which is exclusive to Acer projectors. This feature makes it so simple to change the lamp and it shows that the designers put a lot of thought into this projector. The bulb type is P-VIP 160 watts, which can be replaced for around £140 online or in any specialist computer or electrical store. It also has a six segment color wheel which completely eliminates the color separation i.e rainbow effect experienced by a small percentage of people ... ...blur and lines.
The Acer X1160 comes with a built in Keystoning capability which corrects the position of the picture on what it is display on. In other words if you place your projector below or above the desired location to be fully visible on screen then this product will automatically compress the picture digitally as necessary to provide a squarer image that will fit on your display.
If you are worried about being environmentally friendly ...

You won't need the bloke in IT for this one
Review of Sanyo PDG-DSU20B by
sadoldbag
Advantages: Great picture quality, high brightness, easy to operate
Disadvantages: none
This is a projector designed to work with a lap top and screen so you can do presentations or whatever where you want your computer screen projected. I also use it connected to a TV and VCR so you can project the image onto a larger screen, for showing to a whole room full of people.
It costs £233 at the moment from the BT shop - that's the cheapest price I can find at the moment - I use mine at work, so I don't know what it actually cost.
It is ... ...anywhere, and bore peole to death by powerpoint slide, on a global scale.
It weighs a little over 6lbs, which is not bad, but if you can get the bloke in IT to set it up for you and carry it over, then I'd do that if I were you.
It is a fabulous example of the genre.
Firstly it's intelligent. It recognises when you've plugged something into it and you don't have to press a dozen buttons just to get it to talk to your laptop. I have a system with ...

NO MORE VPL!
Review of Sony VPL HS1 by
jellybean11
Advantages: quiet, horizontal AND vertical keystone adjustment
Disadvantages: no gamma correction facility, low output
...home cinema projectors so unsurprisingly Sony have stripped the features to the minimum; the connectivity of the machine is pretty frugal, for example it has no component input and other technical specification prove that in all essence it’s a rather basic piece of kit with 800 x 600 pixels and 800ANSI Lumens brightness (for the non-techies out there this is quite low although sufficient for a projector).
~~~FEATURES AND SETUP~~~ Although essentially ... ...picture quality in my opinion. Sony have obviously prioritised correctly with this piece of kit because naturally with any projector the key is to have a high picture quality. This machine has three LCD panels fitted to improve colour accuracy and it uses high quality optics. If you’ve got a suitably-equipped DVD player the VPL is also able to display a progressive scan image which a lot of the earlier models don’t.
Setting up the unit is very straightforward, ...
Sony Projector, Great all rounder!
Review of Sony VPL CX1 by
CHAOS1979
Advantages: Amazing Depth of Colour and Picture Sharpness, portable
Disadvantages: Delicate - Replacement bulbs expensive
I have had this for around a year and its a great piece of Home Cinama Kit. We have the projector set up in our living room and we get a fantastic picture on movies and a 105" Screen. Our room just isn't long enough to make it bigger! We also use it for parties as you can get some outstanding 3d visualisations for winamp etc, always the talk of the party. I was very wary buying one of these, but i found one cheap on ebay and went for it, im so glad ... ...it an awful lot.
There is the obvious drawbacks, you need to have adequate blinds/ cutrains to block light, it needs a dark room to work at its full potential, and be damn careful because those bulbs are expensive to replace.
The set up is easy, connections are straightforward, and there are a good range of menu options enabling you to adjust the projector to your own preferences. ...
