    Advantages Advantages Breakdown Cover

Disadvantages Disadvantages Big Brother style intrusions based on inaccurate information. Rude Customer service.

My Mother and I had a "family membership" which the AA decided to change into a single membership because they decided that I did not live at the same address as my Mpther. I wrote the following letter. Shame, because I have received good breakdown assistance in the past. LETTER TO AA "Customer Service" My Mother, the main member received a letter which stated inter alia that you have received information that I do not live at the address and as a result you have downgraded our family membership to a single member (her). You give no details as to where this information comes from and ... more

Advantages Advantages speedy arrival of recovery

Disadvantages Disadvantages left stranded, no courtesy car, shocking customer service, harrassment

I brought a new vehicle from Ford 6 months ago, it was in the garage last week for 3 days for warantee work. I got it back on the Wednesday and it broke down again on the Friday. I was told by the garage to phone the Relay Plus number and I would get towed to the garage and a guaranteed courtesy car on arrival. The AA driver arrived and tested the car, and decided far too dangerous for me to drive so towed me to the garage, 25 miles away. On arrival I asked the garage for my courtesy car. They THEN explained that my Relay Plus sold by them was dealt with by the AA, so AA to arrange a vehicle ... more

Advantages Advantages YOU THINK YOUR COVERED

    Disadvantages Disadvantages YOUR NOT

Having been a long time AA member to say i was disgusted at the (lack of) service recieved would be an understatement. My car broke down at home with a broken water pump 3 weeks before a planned euro trip, i would be unable to fix it myself so wanted recovery to my friends garage unfortunately for me this was the start of the really bad weather and the AA were predictably busy. After eventually getting through on the phone i was told a patrol would attend before "close of play" that day despite my attempts to explain i didnt need a patrol just recovery. I recieved a call from the AA a few ... more

    Advantages Advantages Freephone number

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, slow, always busy

I have been a memeber of the AA for about 18 years and have had to use them a few times. More when I was younger and couldn't afford a more modern realiable car. I had to use them earlier this year, in March. It was very cold, 7PM and I was in Tesco car park. I called the AA and a very nice woman said that is been a bit of a busy time and that a man with a van would be out in about an hour. I said I couldn't start the car (as the water pump had gone) and it was getting a bit chilly. One hour and 30 minutes later I called to confirm my details and enquire about the whereabouts of said man with ... more

I am going to review the ordering process of this product. I will review how easy it was, the value of the product, and the communication. Ok, so after my original Volkswagen breakdown cover ran out i had to look to see where i could get the best deals from. My dad recommended i only really look for the most reputable dealers (not sure if that was the best advice, but it can't be bad), so i did. The AA and RAC were the 2 frontrunners. Both offering a very similar range of packages. But as i use Quidco cashback site, the AA cashback was higher, and so i went to look into them at greater detail ... more

Advantages Advantages none- I never actually had a breakdown to use the services

Disadvantages Disadvantages they benefit financially if you do not receive your renewal notice

This company benefits financially from the automatic renewal system for breakdown cover. The terms & conditions state you will be sent a renewal notice informing you of the charge and renewal date. What happens if you don't receive a renewal notice... you are only aware your policy has been renewed when you see they have taken the money out of your bank account. If you call and ask why you were not notified they will tell you a renewal notice was sent by post and yet when I asked the customer service rep he said they can not prove this, at this point you have two choices except the fact they ... more

    Advantages Advantages Speedy Response

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very Poor Customer Services - Very argumentative

I am a Member of Saga who currently use the AA for Breakdown Recovery. This is my 1st year with them - Not impressed. Although attendance was very rapid, the Patrolman failed to issue an attendance report even though I was parked in a car park - Non Compliance. He recommended a local Garage which I later discovered charged double the cost of other Garages - Snapped wire to the alternator on a basic Ford Ka. Total cost £92.00!! I trusted the Patrolman to recommend a garage that would not take pecuniary advantage. The AA will argue that they have no control or contracts with garages but being a ... more

Advantages Advantages Value for money, great customer support

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None yet!

I decided to get myself some roadside cover after my Astra broke down for the third time that month (dodgy battery). I went about the task of comparing The AA and RAC, not easy I'm afraid, I asked work colleagues, looked on ciao and dooyoo and eventually choose The AA as it saved me £1.90 a month in comparison to the RAC, a discount I received due to being with The AA for my car insurance. It seems that both companies have people who rave about them and equal amounts of people who aren't satisfied with either or believe roadside cover is overpriced. Usual format here, I will go through a few ... more

Advantages Advantages May have a reasonable recovery service, but I've never had to use it

Disadvantages Disadvantages Eager to get your money, dishonest, don't honour agreements.

The AA - I think they are crooks. After phoning me lots of times to encourage me to renew membership some 4 weeks before it expired, I finally negotiated a new renewal price. They then took my money 9 days before renewal was due, and overcharged me by £50. Having got my money, it was then almost impossible to contact them, and I had to phone about 10 times before I finally got someone to investigate. They obviously didn't believe my story, but I was able to give exact times of my call, and the name of the person I spoke to. After some deliberations they agreed to refund the £50 right away, but ... more

Advantages Advantages quick response, good customer service, good communcation, fix a lot of breakdowns

Disadvantages Disadvantages some of the deals are quite expensive

The AA pride themselves on being the UK's "number one breakdown provider". They provide a 24 hour recovery service for their members and there are different levels of cover available. Another claim made by the AA is that they "fix more breakdowns by the roadside than anyone else". I have never bothered with breakdown cover until I moved back home from university with the intention of commuting each day. I realised that if I were to break down on the hour drive to brighton there would probably be no one willing to come and rescue me!! On top of this my brothers car had broken down several times ... more
