    Advantages Advantages Cheap...but in this case a massive false economy

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Spectacularly inept claims management - truly one of the worst companies I have dealt with

    We called Churchill to resolve a blocked drain issue that we had over a month ago. As I write, we have an open drain in our garden that Churchill's "preferred drain supplier" ANSA came to open just before Christmas. They dug up our shed to access the drain and then left, because they did not have the ability to fix the problem having opened it. We have heard nothing from them for a week whilst we keep our children (aged 6, 4 and 2) out of the garden because of the health hazard of the open drain.     If winston knew how insurance business was conducted in his name. Last year we bought three seperate insurance policies with Churchill: two for cars the other for household (buildings and contents) . All our eggs in the one basket (case). As it were.That was a big and expensive mistake. It takes ages to get through to their call centre. Once you have done this ( assuming you have the patience of a saint) you will then discover that no one individual is responsible for your particular case.     Disadvantages Disadvantages Loads, don't like to pay out for claims

    We purchased building and contents Insurance through Nationwide which was underwritten by Churchill. We registered a claim when our chimney stack collapsed due to storms! We were told over the phone and without any assessment/visit that damage was down to Frost and no one is insured for frost damage! When we instructed a structural engineer to visit, he said the damage was caused by high winds, Nationwide and Churchill would not accept his report and said it was then caused by poor maintenance or bad workmanship!     An anagram of "Churchill Insurance Services" could well be "Should have Checked the small print"?? Yes, not quite, but I think you get the drift of what I stress here. They are considerably cheap for the upfront policy but you get what you pay for when it comes to claims and should you be asking the question, "am I really insured for this amount of cash?". The proof is in the pudding as they say. The Ciao Specific Criteria bar charts (that allow you to comment on the quality of a product or services) only applies to the upfront product, not the services when it comes to claims, so, if you just ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Rude staff, very dishonet, money grabing and have zero customer service

    I changed my car on the insurance to another car I was buying. I notified churchill of the new cars registration as requested; they said yes thats ok, I paid the extra £70 for the new car, no problems. I later got the details through the post and noticed they had put SX model instead of S. I phoned them and the rude staff member said it was my fault about the mistake even though they had asked me the registration plate and I had gave it to them correct and had the V5 document from the DVLA that cleary stated it as an S not an SX.     I have been happy with the amount I've been paying until it came to changing cars. I rang up and they asked for the reg number which came back with the results that my new car was a 1.4, even though I knew it was a 1.1 because I cannot afford to insure a 1.4 at this point in my life. So I had to except the quote until I had the log book in front of me, along with the admin fee. I already wasn't happy with the £15 admin fee because how it can cost £15 for someone to type a few words on a computer I'll never know.     I have now been with churchill car insurance for nearly 2 yrs. Since that time whenever i have had to contact them for changing over my policy, changing car details etc etc, if i have been on a mobile depending on how busy they are at the time, they will ring you back. And they actually do ring you back whent hey say they will, mostly within minutes of ending the call. They are the friendliest company i know, and i have been with a few. They actually do their job and try their hardest to find you the best possible services that they have to offer, and 9 times out of 10 they are the cheapest as ... more

    I am now into my third year Churchill Car insurance. I\'ve never really had any problems with them and they are always competitvley priced. My renewal this year was expensive but I rang them up and they got it down by £50 so I stayed with them. My second year they gave me 30% no claims discount for one year and my thrid year they have given me a discount of even more. However, when I moved house I was charged a £150 premium for three months because I was living in a worse area, but I understand that it can\'t be helped.     Where do I start, first off they were more than happy to take my money for the insurance, but when I came to renew my policy elsewhere, thats when the trouble really started. Initially after first insuring with them I had trouble getting documents from them, having to make four phone calls in two weeks to receive my insurance policy. Every person that I spoke to said "there must be a problem with your post because we have done everything right".     I am heartened to read that others are/have suffered from Churchill. In February 2007 this firm removed money from my bank account which was an unauthorised fraudulent transaction I insured with them from March 2006 to March 2007 However in February 2007 they made up a direct debit mandate and submitted it to my bank without first informing me that they were in the process of doing this, under the disguise of renewing my car insurance.
