    1 Star "named driver No Claims" is a scam to catch parents of teenagers 16/06/2012

    Advantages Advantages This company started doing the right thing by-passing brokers but they've lost it now

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The company gives an impression of ethics particularly in C Addison ads - its a lie!

    DL's assertion that named drivers can earn no claims discount encouraged me to stay with them as my sons approached 17 years of age. When my son reached 17 he was added as a named driver and had no accidents or convictions for 1 year. On his 18th birthday we bought him a small sensible car (Peugeot 206) for him to drive to his new job. When we rang Direct Line we were quoted approximately £8,000 for Third Party Fire & Theft insurance as the price including the No Claims Discount. We have since taken up a quote with Admiral for just under £1,800 and we are moving all our policies to Admiral. I ... more

    In my opinion over the years Direct Line Insurance have become less efficient and not as competative as they used to be.Their website is slow and often when completing the online form fields do not appear at first, then when you submit the formit comes back with error messages saying that "information not completed" and a new field that was not their before nowrequires to be filled in.. This is most frustrating when having completed and submitted the form you have to go back and enter additional information that was not evident before and sometimes it will not allow you just to enter this new ... more

    I insured my wifes car with directline, then in december 2009 the engine went wrong we took the car off the road SORN and change to my fathers old car and notified Directline of this. A couple of months later we transferred the registration from her original car to the replacement.Then three months after this we bought a new car and transferred the insurance again.     Is everyone sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin … I have always been a named driver on my mum’s insurance via Direct Line. Whilst on her insurance I managed a number of interesting manoeuvres and yet somehow 5 years later she still had a couple years no claims bonus!     One of the benefits of the internet in recent years is the emergence of comparison websites for customers looking for competitive deals for insurance, energy providers & mobile phone tariffs. In days of old getting competitive insurance quotes was a time consuming & laborious task. If you weren’t happy with a quote from an existing company you had to ring round various other companies & hope that your efforts would be rewarded, often they weren’t.     I have been with direct line for several years and they have been fantastic. Almost everthing in my house is covered with direct line and I would never change I had a burst pipe in my toilet early last year it happened at 8pm at night and I was frantic. The company that direct line instructed to deal with the disaster were (Balfour) they were very proffesional and efficient and nothing was to much trouble the guys were great,even down to the accesors they were excellent. always called back and were extremley polite Its relief to deal with a company thet really looks after its customers and ... more

    DL is the worst insurance company I have dealt with in well over 35 years - My history. I have held full NCB and clean licence for many many years, Out of the other two car dirvers one has a solitory speeding ticket in over 30 years and not claimed for at least 15 whilst the other is totally clean like me. Our cars are all every day modest performing production cars. I make that a pretty good risk by any standards . The first issue arose when I ensured an additional car and opted for multi car.     My car was burnt in an arson atteck and most of the trauma I sustained from the incident came from Direct Line. MIsinformation, lost documents, slow letters, different people every time, broken promises and overall shoddy behaviour. Ripoff and Runs could do better.

    Direct line are the worst people to deal with ever!! I was involved in an accident last year, they constantly tried to get out of paying for the car to be repaired, over expensive and total waste of time, no resonable answers back from staff and all management are useless!! They took a the loan car away from me too early, tried to charge me extra even thought the accident wasn't my fault, wouldn't make a start on the car being repaired, all in total my car was off the road for 9 weeks before I got it back, now thats not right huh?? they are slow with everything, and even though the accident ... more

    Beware of their so called named driver No Claims Bonus discounts. I had my two sons as named drivers on our policy and one of them just took out a policy with DL in their own name. He got an online quote and called to confirm it with the call center only to be told it was going to cost about 150 pounds more than the online quote. The reason? According to the agent, although all the marketing literature they put out clearly refers to Named Driver No Claims Discounts, when it comes to actually trying to use these, the discounts are actually called Named Driver discounts which are worth much less ... more
