Advantages Advantages Quick, easy, painless. Everything is done for you.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Basic teeny tiny hire car.

I've typed this review as an overview of the Direct Line website, plus as a 'what to do if involved in an accident' and a 'what happened to us' - I hope it helps! I don't seem to have much luck with cars. My first was repeatedly vandalised until the fateful day someone pulled its poor little door off and tried to hotwire it. My second car was going fine until the day someone decided to drive into the back of it at a road junction - they said they were "looking behind me" which I would strongly advise you not to do when approaching a busy junction as you might hurt yourself. They say that you ... more

Advantages Advantages Huge Range Of Services, Value For Money, Great Service

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None At All

Every year that time comes when I have to phone around to find out who wants to charge me what to re-insure my car for another 12 months. Every year I try all the top companies and all the little ones, I have had insurance with various different companies including the likes of Endsliegh, Tesco Insurance but keep coming back to one company, Direct Line. Since being with Direct Line I have had 3 different cars and with every car they come back with the cheapest insurance quote, and they allow me to pay it monthly. This is a bit of bonus as there is no way I could afford to pay out them amounts ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to so business with, good premiums, stable underwriting

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

Background --------------- I have been insured with Direct Line for something like 14 years now, having defected to them when I worked for a very large well known broker, as even with staff discount, Direct Line's quote was cheaper! We currently have two cars, home insurance and life insurance with direct line, and I will ensure they quote us for pet insurance very soon. I have also taken out their one trip travel insurance on a couple of occasions. In fact that little red phone finds it way into my home every couple of months or so. Back in the early 1990s Direct Line certainly revolutionised ... more

Advantages Advantages More competitive than comparison websites, staff at call centre when buying

Disadvantages Disadvantages No courtesy car available with fully comprehensive package

One of the benefits of the internet in recent years is the emergence of comparison websites for customers looking for competitive deals for insurance, energy providers & mobile phone tariffs. In days of old getting competitive insurance quotes was a time consuming & laborious task. If you weren’t happy with a quote from an existing company you had to ring round various other companies & hope that your efforts would be rewarded, often they weren’t. You could always find an agent & leave your details with him or her for a few days & hope for the best. Nowadays comparison web sites take the ... more

Advantages Advantages Competitive, easy to deal with.

Disadvantages Disadvantages None I can think of.

Every year I trawl through insurance web sites getting quotes for car insurance, I have even been known to phone some of them for a quote, (I know, it’s an antiquated idea but I’m an old fashioned guy at heart) but for the last five years I have always came back to the one Insurance company, Direct Line. I have two cars on the road, a small Mazda 121 and a nice Mitsubishi Carisma GDI sport, one I use for ferrying my wife and kids about and the small one for work and general run about use so I need a comprehensive cover that won’t make me cry when the premium is mentioned. Direct Line has ... more

Advantages Advantages efficient, good customer service, cheap policy

    Disadvantages Disadvantages no courtesy car

Some of you will know already that we had a prang in our new car recently. We had only had it 3 months when my husband drove into the back of another driver at a roundabout. Easily done, I know, but we really beat ourselves up about it afterwards, thinking what we could have done to avoid it. But what is done can't be undone, so we set about sorting out the mess. Having read a few ops about our insurance company, Direct Line prior to this, I must admit, I was a little worried about dealing with them. They seemed to have a reputation for not living up to their 'easy to deal with, sorted out ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheapest Quote I could find, even cheaper on-line

Disadvantages Disadvantages The wheels on that telephone don't look safe!!!

Car insurance. What an interesting subject. I hate it, and unless you're an insurance broker, you probably hate it too. But we all need it if we want to drive. This is the first year I have been with Direct Line, and so far, so good. My insurance with my previous insurers always cost me what I considered to be far too much money. I believe I am a safe driver, 1 minor hiccup a few years ago, but that was my fault and no other vehicles were involved. I just reversed into a very large, narrow post. It was in my blind spot...ok!!! Well, that's my excuse anyway, but that's my only accident, and I ... more

Advantages Advantages Competitive premiums, can buy over phone or internet

Disadvantages Disadvantages Numerous errors by sales staff, inefficient service, slow response to letters

Insuring your car can be an expensive and time-consuming business and making sure you have the right policy for “your” needs is essential. Shopping around can indeed save you money, but what you also need to bear in mind is the quality of service you receive and making sure you know what type of policy you have been quoted for, hence reading the “small print” in the policy is vital. Previously, I had enjoyed 5 years of trouble free Motor Insurance with a large well-known insurance company (CGNU). Following a “write-off” (it’s not as bad as the word ... more

Advantages Advantages Does exactly what it says on the tin (as it were)

Disadvantages Disadvantages We lost our no claims bonus

We chose Direct Line Insurance to provide our comprehensive motor insurance purely on the basis of price, in January this year. They quoted us around £200 cheaper than the nearest rival (More Than) could. When I accepted the policy, in my name with the Other Half as a named driver, I deliberately declined the Guaranteed Hire Car, Direct Line's answer to a courtesy car. It costs an extra £15 premium to have it, and I figured that since neither of us use the car to get to work, in the event of an accident we could manage without it for a couple of weeks. If you can't manage without a car, then ... more

Advantages Advantages Very easy to setup, very polite and helpful customer services

Disadvantages Disadvantages Far too much money, services lacking in areas

I was going to write an opinion of Direct Line when I first began my motor policy with them but decided to leave it a little, and I am glad I did. I am 24, would consider myself a good driver, yes I have occassionally mad moments but then doesn’t everyone? So now tell me does Direct Line think my driving is so bad it warrants paying £989 in motor insurance? Or maybe they just think every other road user is appallingly bad…umm tough one. No convictions, claims and a valid license etc etc but that premium is way up in the clouds. I went with these on the basis of a few verbal ... more
