Advantages Advantages Massive reduction on CO2 emissions, large scale source of energy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Solid long term waste, expense. Far outweighed by advantages.

The question placed before this assembly is "Do we need more Nuclear power stations?" It must be noted that we do seem to be overwhelmed with stories of "Global Warming" There is scarcely a news programme that does not mention this at least once. We will not under any circumstances give up our cars, so some other method or reducing greenhouse gas emissions must be found. And that leads to industry and particularly power generation. In attempting to answer this question I will first make the assumption that we are all agreed that there is a need in this country for further generating capacity ... more

Answering the question: "Do we need more Nuclear Power Stations?" highlights the dilemma between generating enough energy to satisfy our lifestyle, and the lifestyle of developing countries; against the human aspect of whether we actually want Nuclear Power stations on our land, the negative perceptions that most people have, (after the disasters at Three Mile Island and at Chernobyl in the 1970s/1980s) (on the day I was born). Advantages Advantages We can speed up the inevitable demise of this useless race

Disadvantages Disadvantages I'm a part of this useless race just like those i care about

This ones kind of an easy one for me to answer and personally it should be an easy one for anyone. Let one person tell me its a great idea to increase our reliance on a radioactive and heavily pollutive race with a straight face or for that matter an actually fully functional brain. Places like this arent gonna effect the old its true, but some of you have kids who are gonna be there when this sort of pollution well and truely hits the fan. I'm probably going to be around when this world is a thriving cancer and lung infected hell hole. That's just my luck though, i get hit with centuries of ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages to dangerous

To be honest it is the cheapest way for power, but only because of how many people there are around. Over population has made this time come of lots of nuclear power. In the south they can’t have power stations there because the air is already too high in it to have a plant there. And same thing in many other places. But still it should be stopped. Now there are quite a few ways of making energy instead of such harsh manors, but they are not effective for the amount of money the government WANT to spend. Because lets face it all the government is all about is getting money and making false ... more

Advantages Advantages Eradication of fossil fuels means less pollution

Disadvantages Disadvantages Eradication of fossil fuels mean less energy production!

The UK has always had a suitable amount of energy. In the middle ages, water in rivers was used to turn water in water wheels and in the early nineteenth century, steam was used from coal, enabling Britain to become the world’s first industrialised country. As time went on however, new methods of energy needed to be found. Existing methods were becoming outdated and couldn’t meet demands or, in some cases, they were simply running out. By 1950 inparticular, for example the cheap and accessible reserves of coal were becoming short, so new methods of energy needed to be found. The existing ... more

Apology: I said plutonium is not very radioactive. This is a lie, it is quite radioactive and all the arguments I've stated on this are wrong. But I don't have time to go through and alter the review yet, I will do soon though. Both plutonium and Uranium are very radioactive and could be used to make dirty bombs. I'm rather stupid because I'm a physicist and should know these things. I realised 5 minutes after I wrote it while I was on the way to work and this was far too rushed. Nuclear power. Something which has caused concern and debate accross the world. But what is nuclear power? How does ... more

In response to the people that suggest nuclear power plants are not a problem or a threat, have you actually really considered the long term effects of them? Nuclear power plants produce loads of toxic waste most of which gets dumped at sea, hence y the water round the plants is always that little bit warmer. They have great co2 emissions which helps to the lovely warming up of the atmosphere, and causes respiratory problems and skin cancer for people and animals. Another reason im all against nuclear power is that the plants are a sitting target for the likes of terrorists, bombing one would ... more

    Advantages Advantages Clean, plentiful, cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could cause you to glow in the dark

I am registered with the CIA. Though I can mix a perfect martini and I like to think that I drive as well as 007, my registration is due to the fact that I know how to make nuclear weapons. It is really quite simple mind you. All that you need is a little bit of two Uranium isotopes. Uranium-235 and Uranium-238 are usually the isotopes of choice. When these two different isotopes are introduced to each other, neutrons are exchanged. When Uranium-235 captures an extra neutron the atom become unstable and splits apart releasing enormous amounts of energy and creates Plutonium-239. In an atomic ... more
