Advantages Advantages No exams, assignment work

Disadvantages Disadvantages A lot of assignments

I have recently completed the two year BTEC GNVQ Advanced IT course at SEEVIC College in Essex and I found the course a lot of fun. The work is all assignement based and there are no end of year exams. Although it is an IT course I would advise taking A-level IT aswell as GNVQ IT because A-Level IT is completely different and offers a lot more programming. The thing you want to do if you are looking at a career in IT, is to learn as many systems and programs as you can. Even studying more at home will help you do this. Advantages Advantages Interesting most of the time

Disadvantages Disadvantages not as challenging for "elite" users

During the work experience I was working for World Reporter the data factory for the FT.com. I learnt so much from the time there and even stayed longer. It was a very good enviroment to work in and the GNVQ prepared me to work in ... more

Advantages Advantages Gives a taste of many aspects of computing

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be boring and mundane if you are already very knowledgeable with computers and seek only a qualification, MOUNTAINS of paperwork

The GNVQ IT course gives the opportunity to sample a wide range of computer-related areas. The course is ideal if you are looking to get a taste of many different aspects of computing. Beware however, as you will almost certainly find that you will wish to spend more time on some areas, and less on others. If you have a decent idea of what you'd like to do try to be more specific. The course content aside, there is an IMMENSE amount of paper work which goes along with this course. Every assignment must have a planning sheet, information seeking and handling details, and an evaluation sheet ... more
